FROM BAKER STREET TO ST. ANDREWS.

Today I thought I'd bring some book items that had caught my attention over the last few weeks or so.

Sherlock Holmes returns. To be honest I've yet to read any of the adventures of S.H. though I was interested to read that after more than eight decades since his last adventure he is to make a comeback.
Perhaps persuaded by the popularity and new legion of fans of the BBC's modern re-telling of the stories (the official trailer of which can be seen below - I hope), Conan Doyle's estate have announced that Anthony Horowitz (author of the popular Alex Rider series) has been commissioned to bring the traditionally deerstalker wearing, pipe smoking detective back to life.

Grief, I can see this causing quite a stir.

What with Philip Pullmans take on the new testament The Goodman Jesus And The Scoundrel Christ (see my review HERE and Husband dearest's HERE) in which Jesus had a less than saintly twin brother and then Michael Faber's THE FIRE GOSPEL which I'm informed saw a dying Jesus call out "Please, somebody, please finish me." it seems we are now to be entertained/outraged by James Frey's The Final Testament Of The Holy Bible which, out this spring, imagines what might happen if Christ returned to earth to live in 21st century New York, having plenty of sex ..... with both men and women.

As I said I can see this causing quite a stir.

The Greatest love story since Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer Shrek and Fiona.

Aah, don't they make a lovely couple?

It had to happen but I was hoping it would be later rather than sooner. Yes, with the wedding of the year only a matter of months away we have Robert Jobson's WILLIAM AND KATE: THE LOVE STORY. Not a book I'll be reading and especially not when we have the wonderful John Crace's Digested Read, a wickedly funny spoof which you can read by clicking HERE.

I enjoyed Sherlock Holmes but I see little point in reviving him. He’s there for those who want him already, albeit in a finite amount of material. Let’s move on.

Have a nice day, Boonie

So is S.H. coming back in book form or movie form?

Hmmm... okay... Is that it?!

It's just that we are so spoiled by your lengthy interesting news letters covering a wide range of matter in fun ways, just the two here doesn't seem quite enough.

Bring on more!!

The Sherlock Holmes bit doesn't surprise me...there's even a resurgence of it in YA and children's lit exploring his younger days. Some are okay, others do a fine job of it....I suppose though it won't be for everyone as what really is. Great shares Tracy!

I've never read any Sherlock Holmes either, although I have a big anthology of Doyle's work. I'd much rather read the classic, than read some modern authors take.

Petty, you are so funny--Shrek and Fiona! Have a wonderful weekend.

I don't always find bringing back or adding to classics successful. I've only read one SH mystery: The Hound of the Baskervilles.

I love Shrek and Fiona.

I think it is a bit too early to write about William and Kate's love story. Let's see if their marriage lasts before we do that! (And I do wish them the best of luck.)

Poor Sherlock would find it difficult to compete with his modern counter parts !
The likes of Jason Bourne !
