6 DEGREES OF SEPARATION #1: BURIAL RIGHTS.

Hmm, I was just saying I hadn't seen any memes for a while and what do you know but I came across this, 6 DEGREES OF SEPARATION meme, on Lindsay's site.

Hosted by Emma Chapman and Annabel Smith the meme is based on the principle that every person on the planet is linked to any other in six or fewer steps BUT what about books?

As Annabel explains HERE .....

'Books can be linked in obvious ways - for example, books by the same authors, from the same era or genre, or books with similar themes or settings. Or, you may choose to link them in more personal or esoteric ways: books you read on the same holiday, books given to you by a particular friend, books that remind you of a particular time in your life, or books you read for an online challenge'

And what's so great about this meme is given a book on the first Saturday of every month its up to us the readers to make up our own rules as the books don't have to connected to anything other than the next ones in the chain.

So, to begin with this month's book is ......

'Set in Northern Iceland, 1829, its about a woman condemned to death for murdering her lover, the family forced to take her in and the priest tasked with absolving her'.

Not a book I've actually read but for me it brought to mind ......

#1 THE GARGOYLE by Andrew Davidson in so much as one of the characters 'spins her tale, Scheherazade-fashion, and relates equally mesmerising stories of deathless love in Japan, Iceland, Italy and England'.

#2 THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAM by Victor Hugo. Read pre-Pen and Paper. Both associated with cathedrals just as some consider the Gargoyle grotesque so some also consider Quasimodo, the hunchback of the title, to be less than attractive.

#3 THE PILLARS OF THE EARTH by Ken Follett. Another pre-Pen and Paper read. A historical masterpiece that unlike The Hunchback Of Notre Dam I actually enjoyed. This is an epic work of fiction about the building of the greatest Gothic Cathedral the world has ever known.

#4 THE LORD OF THE RINGS by JRR Tolkien. Yet another pre-Pen and Paper read. Combining three books ('The Fellowship Of The Ring', 'The Two Towers' and 'Return Of The King') within the one volume this is another epic novel of well over a thousand pages.

#5 RETURN TO THE HUNDRED ACRE WOOD by David Benedictus. In my mind one of the greatest fellowships there is is that of Winnie The Pooh and friends.

#6 THE EARTH HUMS IN B FLAT by Mari Strachan. From Winnie The Pooh and his love of honey made by bees to the earth humming in B Flat, this is a story of a young girl who iinquisitive, bookish and full of spirit can fly in her sleep.

Hmm, interesting and fun. Its amazing the leaps our minds make.

What a fun idea and I enjoyed seeing how your mind worked with this.

Mine is already making connections based on the title of the starting book....

Interesting meme. I read and loved the JRR Tolkien book pre-blog land as well. The Hobbit is one of my favorite books.

So glad you took part Tracy! I haven't read any of the books on your list but I still loved seeing the way the connections took shape.

Next month the chain will be starting with Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar on Saturday May 3rd so i hope you'll play again!
