SAYING SORRY SEEMS TO BE BECOMING A HABIT.

Am I the only one who has always truly believed that its OK to post/quote the work of other bloggers/sites as long as I link to the original post and mention that it isn't my words/photographs etc I'm using but belong to 'such and such' a person?

I thought not.

Not a rude person and certainly not one who would ever knowingly 'steal' other people's work (and yes I agree copyright infringement is theft) I always link to any blog post I feature AND, wherever possible, ask the individual bloggers permission BUT I hold my hands up and admit that, whilst I always link to the original newspaper article, I don't tend to ask permission of the newspapers.

Sooooo,

but after recent events regarding the issues of plagiarism and what is known as SCRAPING I've decided that it is no longer enough to simply post my MM posts and link to the original article but that I really need to contact the newspapers concerned and ask their advice as to where I stand which means that for a while I won't be posting any MM posts. Apologies for this but better safe than sorry sued.

Not all bad news though .....

Who would have thought it .....

My review, yes, MY review of Wayne McCauley's THE COOK was published in issue number 73 of NEWBOOKS magazine.

I would think you might be safe because you DO link the original post. If anything, you are giving them free advertising.

I think that one day the whole thing will calm down. We are just in a big adjustment period. Still, I do understand where you stand.

Congrats on your review being published!!

I'll be interested to know what you find out after contacting them. Personally, I think you're fine with the way you're doing it....but who am I to say?!

Congratulations on your review!

Personally I thought it was fine to quote a snippet and link back crediting the original source. But like you say, better safe than sorry. Please keep us posted on what they say when you ask, I'm curious.
Congrats on your review being published!

Hi Tracy,

Great news on getting your review published, I have been mentioned on a couple of authors websites and in their book credits, It feels so good, doesn't it?

I quite often find myself linking to another review of a book, or an interview with its author, although like youreslf, I always provide plenty of links and credit to the other person, so assumed this would be okay.

I just think that the whole world has gone mad, it's almost enough to make you feel like giving up on the entire social media thing, just in case you do something inadvertently wrong!!

Hope to see you back to your usual garrulous self, very soon.

Yvonne

I think you're safe as long as you link, but I've had people e-mail me about photo copyright infringment even with links, so I understand. Congrats on being published!

Oh, and on the turkey chili, you could do tofu or eggs-- just leave out the Worchershire sauce for eggs and replace with more salsa! Or when I made it for Ben, I just had beans!

Congrats on the review being published.

Sorry there won't be any MMs for a while- but I can understand why you want to check things out.:) Good luck!

I doubt if it will tantamount to infringement of copyright or violation of the Newspaper's rights.
As long as you clearly mention the link and source. Moreover there is no monetary benefits involved here. What about TV quoting the newspapers of the day?

I think you're allowed to present and comment on odd news items, and provide links to the full stories, but I may be wrong.

Congratulations on getting your review of The Cook published in Newsbooks magazine!

That is great about your review getting published!! WOO HOO!!

And it is a fine line about "borrowing" info. I think the fact that you link to the original story and don't present it as your own makes it OK but what do I know!
