I hate cruelty to animals in any way, shape or form so felt I had to have a rant about this article that was sent to me.
"Two rescue dogs have been given breast lifts to help them find new owners. Chocolate Labradors Morgan and Emma had saggy skin on their chests, which put visitors off. They've had a nip and tuck to bring them luck."
Bring them luck? I don't think so. What it did bring them though is the unnecessary pain of a totally unneeded surgical procedure.
Now I have very mixed feelings about humans and cosmetic surgery but, for one thing this post isn't about that, and, for another it's a whole different thing humans choosing to have such procedures carried out and animals being forced to undergo such things.
Then of course what kind of 'owner' (and we are not talking dog breeders here, that's a whole other post) would dismiss a dog just because it had some 'saggy skin' - surely not the kind of person you would really want to see the dog have a home with.
After all, when all is said and done, these are two rescue dogs who may not have had the best of lives so far. Is it really fair to have them undergo what is basically a doggy 'boob job' in order for them to be found more appealing?
Rant over. What do you think?

Wow, if this is true it's appalling, not appealing.
Okay, that's really bizarre. People really are wacky.
I'm with you on this.
The last dog that I shared my life with had disgusting breath and some very unsavoury personal habits too. I loved her dearly. I think that she liked me too, in her unconditional doggy kind of way. We each forgave/overlooked one anothers' shortcomings. That's the best way - with humans too.
If you don't like dog features, don't bring one into your life.
Have a nice day, Boonsong
I am totally with you too. My Jake is not very appealing at all with his bald bits and his knobbly bits, but I love him just the same. My rabbit has a double chin because of illness and I would never part with him either. I cannot believe they would do this to an animal.
Agreed. I too have a heart for animals and cruelty just makes me furious. Unbelievable what some people do!
(On a lighter note your blog is looking marvelous!)
I do think that was unnessasary stress on the dogs. But on the other had if they now get picked up by a family whereas before they might not have done is it worth it? Its a differcult one as most of the people picking up dogs at these places are not going because they want to rescue a dog but because they want a dog (if that makes sense)
Seriously?? Where was this?? I worked at a shelter and it never ceased to amaze me how shallow people were. One couple brought their cats in becasue their fur didn;t match the new furniture!
Oh my word! That's insane! Dogs come in all shapes and sizes and I'm sure that someone would have loved them for who they were.... Totally agree with you on the potential owners that turned the dogs down for that reason. I mean really...how shallow can you really be?
This is absolutely ridiculous, and I can't imagine ANY VET that would do this kind of unneccessary surgery! I just hope the dogs got wonderful homes. Glad Neal is going back to work with Madge. My love as always. molly xo
Ugh. I've seen shows with abused animals-it isn't pretty. Why subject them to more than what they've already been through?
And, for that matter, what true dog owner cares about saggy skin? A dog provides love without asking for much in return-shouldn't we do the same for them?
That, and its a very big waste of money.
I'm sorry but the people who thought this was necessary has no business owning dogs or deciding who gets to rescue them. The next thing you know they be doing nip/tucks on foster children to make them more appealing to their prospective "parents". What the hell is this world coming to?
WTF is all I have to say....Humans suck sometimes! Poor dog...
I can't believe this either! Poor dogs; I hope they still find happy homes anyway.
Saw your comment about husband's hayfever -- you don't think it's allergies to the medicine(s) themselves?
Poor dogs. I can't believe this. I totally agree that they don't need homes with someone who can only see that they need doggie boob jobs!
What an odd story!! I joked about Mama Dog needing a lift when we rescued her last summer (she'd obviously had several litters of puppies in addition to being pregnant when we took her in). I was just kidding, though, and in time she got her "figure" back. But even if she hadn't, we still would love her just the same!
I just can't imagine this!! The best thing they could have done for those dogs was spay them so there wouldn't be anymore puppies.
People who abuse their pets and any animal are heartless.
Poor dogs, they don't deserve such treatment!
On a side note:
I just came back from my trip and I had to say this to you,
I LOVE YOUR COUNTRY! UK was really terrific! I went outside of London too, places like Oxford Street and Stratford Upon Avon
I totally agree with you. Our animals love us with our sags and wrinkles and we should do the same. Anyone who is going to truly love and animal would be appalled to learn that it had had cosmetic surgery. Poor dogs! That must have been so confusing for them!
OMG, isn't it the imperfections that add to the appeal and charm? That's what I tell my husband anyway.
Oh no no no no no no ... this is just wrong on so many levels.
Those poor dogs! Hope they found a loving home and recovered from the unnecessary surgery. Poor babies!
I so love animals, and cruelty towards them just makes me furious!
Poor dog.. That's insane.
I cannot understand those people..unfortunatelly these people suck :(

That's really terrible! Geez.. I can't believe people would stoop so low just to get a pet adopted. :o(
