An Amazon purchase, The Good, The Bad And The Undead is the 39th in the 100+ Reading Challenge.
THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UNDEAD by KIM HARRISON.
During the last few months, former bounty-hunter Rachel Morgan has been rather busy. Having escaped relatively unscathed from her corrupt former employers, she's not only acquired a vampiric room-mate called Ivy, faced werewolf assassins and battled shape-shifting demons, but has also found the time to pick up a boyfriend (even if he is only human) and open her very own runner agency. But cohabiting with a vampire, however reformed, has its dangers. Ivy's evil vampire ex-boyfriend has decided that he wants her back, and views Rachel as a tasty side-dish. To make matters worse, Rachel's demon mark is the ultimate vamp-aphrodisiac; one that works both ways.
The stakes are high, and if Rachel is to save herself and her roommate she must challenge the master vampire and confront the dark secrets she's kept hidden even from herself.
...... Outer back cover.
FIRST SENTENCE (Chapter 1): I hitched the canvas strap holding the watering canister higher up on my shoulder and stretched to get the nozzle into the hanging plant.
MEMORABLE MOMENT (Page 339): "Heyde-hey," I said, stopping just shy of the bridge's apex. Yeah, it was kind of stupid, but it was the traditional greeting between trolls.
KEEP IT OR NOT?: Without a doubt this will be kept.
The second book in the Rachel Morgan series and every bit as good, if not better, than the first, Dead Witch Walking (click HERE to see my review).
Someone is killing ley line witches and its up to Rachel to find out who before she is next.
Another great outing for 'runner' Rachel Morgan, her vampire room-mate, Ivy, her human boyfriend, Nick, and, my favourite, pixy, Jenks.
Along with some of the 'old' characters, we were also introduced to several new - my favourite being a troll by the name of Sharps. The Good, The Bad And The Undead is an exciting read with, after a bit of a slow start, plenty of action though it has to be said it is the growing relationship between Rachel and 'living vampire' Ivy that I find most fascinating. A shame then that Ivy did not appear as much as in the first book. That said, when she did it was action-packed and harrowing by turn - these truly are characters you come to care for.
The only slightly disappointing thing to me being the love scene between Rachel and Nick. Not overly explicit or anything like that I just do not see the need for it and as there was one such scene in Dead Witch Walking its already beginning to feel as if these scenes, along with the appearance of Demon, Big Al, must be added to the 'recipe' of what makes the series - all very well at this stage but I think it runs the risk of becoming boring and to be expected. Much better is the understated, simmering 'love' between Rachel and Ivy.

You need to stop posting all these reviews!
You're just feeding my book addiction!
I've got a notebook filled with authors and book-titles that I want to read. I'll have to live to be 385 years old to get the time to read all of them! Or win the lottery so that I can sit at home and read all day instead of working.
I loved the first book in this series but never seemed to read more. I have to say I think it is the covers that put me off. I really don't like them and I know that is completely shallow, but I can't help it.
I have the first book on my wishlist. Seems like an exciting series!
I agree with Vivienne - I don't like the covers either.
Funny, that book sounds so interesting! I would've never thought to pick it up. :)
Very nice review, Petty. I'm glad you enjoyed this book. It does sound worth keeping.
Thanks for the review! It sounds fast-paced; I'll have to remember this book.
Oh I've been wanting to read this one. I think I like the US covers a bit better. :)
Nice review PW. Glad to see you back in action :))))
I love reading your book reviews!
Sounds like a fun and slightly crazy series!
Glad you're enjoying the series so far. I've a friend you is an avid fan of the author but um, about those love scenes...I hear they get more frequent and maybe more explicit. Could be wrong, but just in case....
Happy reading all the same!
Great review as always! Sounds like an interesting read!
Hope you are feeling better now on the health front:-)
Sounds like a very good series. Hopefully they will mix it up a bit in the next one as far as the love scenes go.
