Standalone fourth book in the Lesser Travel Tips series

Book 4 of the hilarious book series that those in the know will want to read when arriving at Paris airport so they laugh so freaking hard that it will intimidate any suspicious characters looking to abduct them and sell them into the human trafficking game. Life was not meant to be easy, Simon Yeats’ father used to tell him. Well, it sure as hell was not meant to be this bizarre and witty. Australian ex-pat Simon Yeats shares his stories of travel misadventures and dubious personal introspection with comedic insights into the unusual and uproarious elements of living his life abroad. All while having a sense of Wanderlust as pervasive as Mongol hordes in the 12th century. From how to negotiate getting abused in Los Angeles when you will only drive at 5 miles/hr., to what to do when locked out of your hotel room in your underwear, to the emotions of attempting the world’s second highest bungee when you have a pathological fear of heights, to how to deal with the trials and tribulations of staying in a youth hostel with travelers who have no respect for the other guests. Simon Yeats has gone into the world and experienced all the out of the ordinary moments for you to sit back and enjoy the experience without the need to empty your bank account, get squeezed sitting in a middle airline seat, or deal with border security at the Ukraine/Russia boundary.
An author I've enjoyed travelling with over the course of several books now, each of them the same chatty style and yet with very different stories, tips and advice; each of them highly amusing; each of them with their own imaginative, unique and, yes, very lengthy title.
This time, amongst other places, I've found myself in Australia, The Bahamas, New Zealand, South Africa and the USA where, just as Mr T does, the author ran into several people already known to him ... not always at the most opportune moments it has to be said but then that is what made it so much fun.
Whilst I can't claim to have back-packed across the globe, embraced my fear of heights, or having been woken at 3am by drunken Argentinians ... and to be honest nor would I relish doing so, as with the previous books, the author kept me engaged from the off in a book that yes, full of what could be described as a 'blokey' humour is also full of heart, to say nothing of a delightful home-spun philosophy.
Book four in a collection of his travels, you might think that by now the escapades and tongue-in-cheek humour might be wearing a bit thin but, rest assured, having previously taken my advice and started on this book after having said book three, How to Avoid Getting Mugged In Rio Janeiro By Singing Songs By The Police And Other Lesser Known Travel Tips was to be the last, I hope the author will do so again and begin book 5 as I'm sure there are lots more destinations and fun anecdotes to be had.

Simon Yeats has lived nine lives, and by all estimations, is fast running out of the number he has left. His life of globetrotting the globe was not the one he expected to lead. He grew up a quiet, shy boy teased by other kids on the playgrounds for his red hair. But he developed a keen wit and sense of humor to always see the funnier side of life.
With an overwhelming love of travel, a propensity to find trouble where there was none, and being a passionate advocate of mental health, Simon’s stories will leave a reader either rolling on the floor in tears of laughter, or breathing deeply that the adventures he has led were survived.

No author has laughed longer or cried with less restraint at the travails of life.

HOW TO SURVIVE MAKING YOURSELF LOOK SILLY WHILE DANCING WITH THE GERMAN MAFIA AT A BAVARIAN NIGHTCLUB AND OTHER LESSER KNOWN TRAVEL TIPS.

The best has been saved to last. Book 3 of a hilarious series of travel misadventures and dubious personal introspection by Australian author Simon Yeats, who from an early age learned that the best way to approach the misfortunes of this world is to laugh about it.

Simon shares his comedic insights into the unusual and uproarious elements of living life as an Aussie ex-pat and having a sense of Wanderlust as pervasive as Cholera in the 1850s.

From how to outwit the Italian police while trying to find parking in downtown Genoa, to how to negotiate exploring the Roman ruins of Plovdiv, Bulgaria while on crutches, to how to impress the German Mafia with 80s dance moves, to how to leave a lasting impression on a crowded bar in Gothenburg, Sweden after combining alcohol and antibiotics.

Simon Yeats has gone into the world and experienced all the out of the ordinary moments for you to sit back and enjoy the experience without the need to rupture a disc or succumb to Dengue fever.

With previous titles, How To Start A Riot In A Brothel In Thailand By Ordering A Beer And Other Lesser Known Travel Tips and How To Avoid Getting Mugged In Rio De Janeiro By Singing Songs By The Police And Other Lesser Known Travel Tips , it was only to be expected that this, the third book in the series, would have an equally long and impressive title ... and, at 23 words long, it did not fail.

You could be forgiven that after three such books these anecdotes might have become a bit, well, tired but in fact, another destination, another adventure, I feel like they have a lot of, err, mileage {Sorry, I couldn't resist; travel memoir, mileage, get it? No? Maybe not} in them yet which is why, reputedly the last of his travel memoirs, I can only hope that Yeates gets to go on many more adventures in order to write another one.

But as it is ...

Quite possibly the funniest of the three books, not least because as someone who needs crutches themselves I couldn't help but laugh out loud as I pictured Yeates' sister {quite possibly the funniest character we are introduced to} dragging him sightseeing across a town in Bulgaria whilst he himself was on crutches.

In short, whether it be showing the German mafia some classic moves on the dancefloor, Chinese women of, emm, a certain age, standing, yelling at an airport's customer service desk or a Greek market seller who swears by olive oil as a cure all {and that's only in this book}, you have to give it to the author he has some wonderful travel tales to tell and he tells them in such a way that you cannot help but laugh.

HOW TO AVOID GETTING MUGGED IN RIO DE JANEIRO BY SINGING SONGS BY THE POLICE AND OTHER LESSER KNOWN TRAVEL TIPS.

Standalone second book in a 3 part series

Book 2 of a hilarious series of travel misadventures and dubious personal introspection by Australian author Simon Yeats, who from an early age learned that the best way to approach the misfortunes of this world is to laugh about it.

Simon shares his comedic insights into the unusual and uproarious elements of living life as an Aussie ex-pat and having a sense of Wanderlust as pervasive as the Bubonic Plague in the 1300s.

From what to do when several people converge to rob you after midnight on a deserted Copacabana Beach, to how to save the Sierra Mountain Range from a wildfire outbreak due to a lack of quality toilet paper, to where not to go in Tijuana when trying to locate the origins to stories of the city’s mythical adult entertainment, to how to save yourself from drowning when caught in a storm while sailing off the California coast.

Simon Yeats has gone into the world and experienced all the out of the ordinary moments for you to sit back and enjoy the experience without the need to lose an eye or damage your liver.

Well! Another book, another destination, another looonnng title but then after How to Start A Riot In A Brothel In Thailand By Ordering A Beer And Other Lesser Known Travel Tips {the title of the first book in this, the author's travel memoir series} I suppose I'd have been a smidgen disappointed with anything less than, oh a fifteen word title.

Just how would YOU Avoid Getting Mugged in Rio de Janeiro? Maybe by singing songs by the police??

Hmm! I can't imagine I'm alone when I say I've never given it a thought ... and now, thanks to this book, I have no need to do so.

Not that it hasn't been a hoot finding out. Having read this the 'second' book in the series {seriously, I know how some of you need to read a series in order but with these books there really is no reason to do so} I've come to appreciate the author's tongue in cheek sense of humour; his ability to poke fun at himself even more.

Someone looking not just for a travel memoir but also for a guide as to what you might do if faced with any number of eventualities whilst travelling? Or, like myself, someone who hadn't considered the possibility of singing songs to avoid getting mugged in Rio de Janeiro ... and are pleased you now don't have to? Or, just someone with a sense of humour looking for a fun 'travel memoir' that's different? Either way you won't be disappointed.
