MEDIA MONDAY: 'CRIME' SPECIAL.

WARNING: Whilst I endeavour to keep Media Monday family friendly I feel it only right to point out that some of the newspapers featured do have links to articles of a more adult nature. TT

Standing very still police officers in London had an hour long stand-off with ... a garden ornament they thought was a venomous snake.

Police were called when an Essex woman refused to leave a bus after the driver refused to accept her 60p fare because 25p of it was made up of 1 and 2 pence coins.*1

Not a stunt I can see me pulling in Madge *2....

As they approached a set of traffic lights the last thing a group of friends from Liverpool expected was to be overtaken by a mobility scooter, the rider of which pulled a side wheelie before running a red light.

*1 Under the Coinage Act 1971 1p and 2p coins are only legal up to a maximum of 20p for a single transaction.  *2 My powered wheelchair. TT

I would think those policemen felt a bit silly after learning it was a fake snake (though it did look pretty convincing). I would have poked it or something to try and make it move before watching it too long.

If you DO try something like that on Madge, please make sure Mr. T is filming!

That's hilarious about the snake. It must've looked quite realistic!

I'm still laughing about the snake. Talk about a great compliment being paid to the artist!

I know some people who would not go near that snake to see if it was real or not. LOL That one was so funny.

That is too funny about the garden ornament. :-) I kind of feel bad for the Essex woman.

haha that's kind of funny about the garden ornament, but if it looked that real, I'd have been freaked out!

I really should not laugh at that mobility scooter video, but it was so very funny.

Based upon the article I guess that careless users of them are becoming an issue on UK roads?

Thankfully a powered wheelchair and not a mobility scooter Madge is allowed.

Hi Tracy,

I had no idea that copper coinage wasn't legal tender ... It rather begs the question, why have it then? Mind you, with the 5 pence piece being equally pointless, that would give everyone carte blanche to increase prices by 10 pence a time minimum!! Mmmm I might need to re-think that one :)

I don't expect to see you and 'Madge' on the 10 o'clock news for speeding or running red lights ... Mind you, it was in Liverpool, so should I really be so surprised!!

Great stories as always, thanks for sharing.

That fake snake story is pretty embarrassing for the police but funny to read about. The next story about the bus driver shows the police in a much better light, but the bus driver should be ashamed. Good choices Tracy thanks for sharing them.
