ANNOUNCING THE 2015 TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR TBR PILE CHALLENGE.

Thanks to Lindsay over at The Little Reader Library for mentioning this challenge. Something I had benefited from in 2013 (I managed eight books) as my TBR pile is getting out of hand .... again ... I'll definitely be signing up this year.

Take Control 2015Hosted by Kimberly, Caffeinated Book Reviewer, the challenge runs throughout March. To check out the details and sign-up click here.

And in the meantime here is a selection of just some of the books I could be in tackling.

  • The White Princess
  • The King's Curse .... both by Philippa Gregory
  • The Aye-Aye And I by Gerald Durrel .... I'm planning on reading these first three as part of the What's In A Name? 2015 challenge
  • Lamentation by C.J. Sansom
  • Sweep .... which comprises the first three books - 'Book Of Shadows', 'The Coven, 'Blood Witch' - in what I believe is a 14 book series - by Cate Tiernan
  • Capricorna by Xavier Herbert
  • Mercy by Jodi Picoult
  • Proven Guilty by Jim Butcher.
And talking of TBR piles, how's this for another great way of tackling them?

Though I was invited on FaceBook I'm sure our host, Michelle over at Seasons Of Reading, won't mind my mentioning her up-coming A Winter's Respite Read-A-Thon (the guidelines for which can be found here) on Pen and Paper.

Beginning Monday, January 26th at 00.00 CST (6.00 a.m GMT) - apparently here in the UK we are six hours ahead, please check for time differences where you are) through till 23.59 CST on Sunday, February 1st (5.59 a.m GMT on Monday, February 2nd) the credo of the event is ...

a week of relaxed reading during which we can personally challenge ourselves and whittle away those ever looming TBR piles/shelves/libraries.

Sounds like a great way to get some of the books cleared from your TBR list. I have only read one of the books you mentioned possibly reading for the challenge- Mercy. If you read it- I will be curious to hear your thoughts. I read it for one of my book clubs a few years ago.

Have a happy weekend!

That looks like a list of great books. My TBR is endless and it drives me crazy!

Such a clever challenge! So many of us have TBR piles which are about to topple over....

Fortunately most of the books I've chosen for the What's In a Name challenge have been sitting in my TBR pile for awhile (I think I only bought one and it had been on my wish list for some time).

Even though I haven't signed up for this, I'll try to get to as many of mine as I can (even though I have Christmas money for Amazon burning a hole in my virtual pocket!)

I really do want to read more from my own novels. Good luck!

Good luck! I have been making an effort to read older library books and some I own

The Take Control of Your TBR Pile is a great idea. Mine is so out of control that all that I can do is resolve to read a little more this year. Long books also make it worse

Happy reading Tracy!

I signed up for this one as well, as my TBR pile has gotten totally out of control. I like that it's only for one month so it's not as daunting for me. Good luck!

Good luck with the challenge, Tracy! I could use a challenge like this with all my TBR books waiting to be read.

Glad you are joining in with this too. I am tackling my tbr pile right now but will make a special effort in March for the challenge. Off to check out that readathon now. Thanks for the mention by the way!

I had wanted to read Philippa Gregory's books but then there are just so many in the series. I don;t think I can stand reading similar genre books with those father/mother characters having the same name.

I have read Mercy by Jodi Picoult. It's very good. I love it

Hi Tracy,

I have several TBR piles looming now and I am not sure which one to tackle first --

I have one pile which are wins from Goodreads and which I am busy telling myself I should read first, as the authors and publishers have been kind enough to supply some fantastic physical copies.

I have a Kindle which is fit to burst at the seams with author and publisher downloads and the freebies I have snaffled from NetGalley.

Then of course, there are the bookshelves which seem to have taken over just about every room in the house and are stacked 2 or 3 rows deep, all with books I have yet to read

The bookshelves are the obvious place for an instant cull, but I do so hate the thought of parting with books I haven't yet read. If postage was just a little cheaper, I would make a list of titles and offer a few giveaways. At least that way I would know they are going to a good home :)

Good Luck with your challenge!

Yvonne
