TOMORROW IS INTERNATIONAL KISS/CYSSAN/KUSSIJANAN DAY.

July 6th aka International Kissing Day ...... A day in which the whole world embraces the kiss or a day in which we kiss people of different nationalities? Hmm, I suspect it's probably the former rather than the latter.

Anyway,

A first kiss between soon to become lovers, a formal kiss on the hand, a 'mwah' on one cheek or both (Osculum as it was known to the ancient Romans), a kiss between mother and child, a kiss goodbye, lets face it kissing is everywhere but did you know ........

  1. The science of kissing is called philematology
  2. The word kiss is believed to have originated from the old English word cyssan from the the Germanic word kussijanan or kuss
  3. Seen as a sign of respect, thanks and agreement in ancient Greco-Roman cultures, the early Christians  kissed one another in highly specific settings that distinguished them from non-Christians
  4. The expression 'kiss my ass' is known to have been used as early as 1705
  5. The term 'French kiss', first used in the English language in the 1920's, was used as a slur on French culture which was believed to be overly concerned with all matters sexual
  6. Kissing was used to 'seal' a wedding contract in ancient Roman times
  7. Not only does kissing release dopamine, the so-called happy hormone, and  oxytocin, a natural calming chemical but according to one website it also burns up to 2.6 calories a minute which means that the world's longest kiss of 46 hours and 24 minutes burnt up, well, lots of calories
  8. 50% of people have their 'first kiss', something studies suggest we remember more than our first sexual encounter, before the age of 14
  9. Nothing to do with our being right or left handed,  two-thirds of us tilt our heads to the right when we kiss - something of which the average person spends approximately 20,160 minutes of their life doing
  10. Signing a letter with an 'X' represents the contact of the lips during a kiss.
And now on to what we've all been asking ourselves, am I a good kisser?

Well, lets take Seventeen magazine's quiz HERE to find out.

Phew! Coming from a magazine written for the older teenager I would have been dismayed to have been told anything other than .....

You are an amazing kisser. You're the perfect blend of skill and passion. You still get kind of nervous before (and after) a kiss, but that’s totally okay — a lot of guys get nervous too! You know that a great kiss is about wanting to be with someone, so the next time you feel shy, ask your guy to watch a romantic movie, then suggest copying the movie star lip-lock. He'll love your sense of spontaneity, and if the kiss doesn't work out exactly like the on-screen version, you can laugh about it later!

You really did your homework on kissing and I enjoyed the facts you shared.

I'm in the minority...I tilt my head to the left.

It’s years (and years and years) since I did a quiz like that. My results were –
You might not have a lot of experience with kissing, but you’re definitely getting there! For now, stick to small pecks or try giving your guy a flirty butterfly or Eskimo kiss! The most important thing for you to do is to find a guy with whom you feel totally comfortable.
How funny! I’m already a grandma, but I still have a lot to learn.
Happy Kiss Day!

I had no idea there was a day designated to kissing. Doesn't surprise me, though!

I got the same result on the quiz. Could be worse, I guess. LOL.
