WISH YOU WERE HERE.

WISH YOU WERE HERE by VICTORIA CONNELLY.

Have you ever wanted to escape your humdrum life?

A week on the sunny Greek island of Kethos is just what Alice Archer needs, even if she has to put up with her difficult sister. Stella’s tantrums and diva-like demands are a fair price to pay for crystal-clear waters, blue skies and white clifftop villas.

When Alice meets Milo, a handsome gardener at the Villa Argenti, for the first time she suddenly feels beautiful, alluring and confident. But is it just holiday magic or will the irresistible pull between Alice and Milo survive against all odds?
..... Outer back cover.

FIRST SENTENCE (Prologue): On a tiny island in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea sits the Villa Argenti, clinging precariously to a cliff that plummets into the aquamarine waters far below.

MEMORABLE MOMENT (Page 170): Maybe Aphrodite had a sense of humour. The Greek gods were well-known for being mischievous, weren't they?

MY THOUGHTS: Chick lit, a romcom? Call it what you will but Wish You Were Here is nothing if not cheesy, incredibly cheesy ..... and I loved it.

Perfect summer reading and especially so given the awful weather we've been having here in England. Pure escapism, totally undemanding and wonderfully descriptive (I'm positive I could taste that mezze, feel the sand between my toes) and such fun, even if like me you don't fall in love with the characters themselves, its almost impossible not to fall for the sand, the sea, and, without giving too much away, the bit of glorious nonsense that is the wish-granting statue of this Greek Island.

Keep it or not?: A giveaway win thanks to GoodReads and Avon, much as enjoyed it I shall be passing this one on.

It's not a genre I read often, but I do enjoy the occasional "chick lit" and this one sounds quite good.

Not a genre I frequently read either Kelly but sometimes a bit of cheese is just what is needed.

Pure escapism sounds tempting to me! Terrific review--what else is new?!

Sometimes cheesy is perfect! I won't knock cheesy unless it is totally unintended. This doesn't seem the case.

"A perfect summer read." Yep, that's exactly what I was thinking!

This one is on my list. I think I may pick it up, though, after reading your post. I love books where the characters are travelling. I have picked up some of here Austenesque books, Austen homage books if you will, and I have been having some difficulty with them. Jane Austen stories (sort of)in a modern retelling? I'm all for that, but then don't try to write in the style of Jane Austen. This one seems different and I loved the first line.
Thanks, Tracey!

This is the perfect book for a summer read under the shade somewhere, maybe the beach, with a tall glass of something cold! Look forward to visiting more frequently.

Some days nothing beats a great cheesy read. And as I dream of Greece, I might just pick this one up.
