PRECAUTIONARY TALES FOR GRANDPARENTS.

PRECAUTIONARY TALES FOR GRANDPARENTS: SOME OF WHICH MAY BE READ TO THE YOUNG FOR THEIR MORAL IMPROVEMENT by JAMES MUIRDEN.

Inspired by Belloc, James Muirden has penned these whimsical and well-observed Precautionary Tales together with a Modern Alphabet to amuse grandparents and perhaps their grandchildren too, and impart some moral guidance in today's world.

This compilation of wit in verse with delightful illustrations by David Eccles is guaranteed to leave you smiling.

FIRST LINE OF FIRST POEM : The Lion (Page 12): The lion, the lion, he dwells in the waste,

MEMORABLE MOMENT: Lord Hippo (Page 85): A two and a bit page poem about Lord Hippo who 'suffered fearful loss' on 'finding an intruder thieving. PW

MY THOUGHTS: Not usually a fan of this genre and, to be honest, not being familiar with Hilaire Belloc or indeed his Cautionary Verses I didn't realise this was a book of poetry when I agreed to read and review it.

What I call proper poetry (IE the verses rhymed). I absolutely loved this collection of wonderfully humorous poems that, ranging from 'Verses about Beasts' through to 'A Modern Alphabet', were arranged in order of suitability for reading to grandchildren.

A misleading title and one that I fear may well see many missing out on this little gem of a read as, neither just for grandparents or indeed grandparents reading with their grandchildren, this is a superb collection that though not suitable for the very young will be enjoyed by most other ages.

Read and reviewed on behalf of Presents For Men, I was merely asked for my honest opinion, no financial compensation was asked for nor given.

Wonderful review, Tracy. I would not have thought this was poetry, either. So pleased that you enjoyed it!

This does sound fun, and not what I expected from the title.

This sounds like fun! I enjoy poetry- but would not have expected it from the title. I hope more people read this one- since it seems to be quite entertaining for any age. :)

Hi Petty.

This book sound like a good mistake then.Am not a fan of poetry too but if it's easy to understand then that's the book for me.
