AS the result of a childhood wish, John Bennett's teddy bear, Ted, came to life and has been by John's side ever since - a friendship that's tested when Lori, John's girlfriend of four years, wants more from their relationship.
Ted (2012) IMDb
With the film, Ted, proving such a hit in cinemas it was only a matter of time before someone asked the question ......
If a bloke said his best pal was a teddy bear, would you tell him to get stuffed?
Well done The Sun newspaper for, as far as I'm aware, getting there first. (Read article HERE)
Featuring three men, their best friends teddies, and wives/girlfriends, reporter Laura Stott takes a look at what its like to live with a man who still clings on to the cuddly toy of his childhood. (Sorry, I can't post any pictures, something about a small issue of copyright, you'll have to click on the link to the article to see the bears in question.)
Take for instance Mike Scott (28) who loves his teddy, Bluey, so much that he encourages it to 'boss his girlfriend around' OR Reece Merritt (40) who still takes his cuddly koala, Tinker, on holiday with him, his wife and their son OR David Filipe (22) who has a teddy called, what else, Teddy, who lives on his bed.
Hmm.
As a woman who has several cuddly toys, both old and, err, not so old, scattered around the place I can sort of understand these men's reluctance to part with what was obviously an important part of their childhood. Goodness only knows I can still remember the day I had to part with Snowball, my beloved toy rabbit, when he became a bit of a health risk - Husband dearest swore there were things living in him and whilst I was prepared to take the risk, he, for some strange reason or other, wasn't AND then of course there's Bear Necessity (bought several years ago by Hd to keep me company whilst he was in hospital) who still goes everywhere with me AND Anna Versary (pictured above) bought for me by Hd last year to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.
But this isn't about me, it's about grown men and whether or not they should still have such a bond with the teddies of their childhood.
Well, should they? What do you think? As a man would you admit to owning a teddy or similar toy OR as a woman would you mind sharing your man with his teddy? ...... Do tell.

Darling, you really shouldn't be informing the world of my purchasing of teddies for you. People will get the impression that I'm a romantic old sot and I have an image to maintain! Snowball had to go dear, I'm sorry but...
My boys are grown - I kept a few of the toys around - my oldest is still quite fond of the one (it rather surprised me that he was) My younger son maybe has a stuffed toy yet although put away I think and not in the open. My daughter has numerous stuffed toys in her apartment - one she got when she was only 2 - another maybe 3 or 4...
My dog is very fond of one of his toys - most stuffed toys are chewed up immediately and are garbage by the end of the day but he has one puppy that he just carries around and refuses to chew.
Umm...yeah. It's fine to keep them around but not to the extent that the movie portrays (assumedly); that's just creepy. *-*
(Oh and Anna Versary is adorable. ^_^)
I have some stuffed animals around, too. I think it is fine if a guy has one or two from childhood- but I don't like the idea of them sleeping with it or having it boss their girlfriend around. That is just weird. So- I guess for me, if they have one- it should be in a box or on a shelf or something as a memory, but not a daily part of their life...

Aw, I don't know what to say! I understand the attachment to a cute stuffed animal (and the past), but it does seem more than a tad extreme....
Awwww very sweet that hubby buys you stuffies. Well, like you I have a few that I refuse to get rid of. But I think its a little odd if a grown man actually has his teddy bear within sight. If he keeps it in storage with momentos, then maybe.
Lol I thought Ted was hysterical! Laughed so hard I cried.
I'll admit to having a few stuffed animals that hubbie's bought me over the year. i actually think we do have one of his old bears in the basement - or did I make him throw it out?
Poor snowball. At least he was well loved. :)
Hmm. I think most people have stuffed animals/objects that they're very attached to, but taking it to the level of Ted seems a little overboard.
Ben wanted to see that movie so I went with him. It was better than I thought. I don't think I would care if a man liked a toy--I think it was the complete immaturity that made John hard to like--like how rude he was to his girlfriend, job, etc...Even children understand responsibility.
Neither hubbie nor I have any cuddly toys of any description lying around the house. I quite often get 'gooey' when I see a particularly cute toy in a shop, but I am not tempted to buy and I know that hubbie would be horrified if anyone (including me) gave him one as a gift!
I had a musical rabbit given to me as a young child and that is stored in a suitcase in the loft and I know that my brother still has stored his musical bear which he received at roughly the same time.
I can also remember my brother having a Golly, who always had to go to bed with my him. My dad always used to repaint the face when it became blurred and my mum reclothed him so many times, that he was really fat and his arms and legs indistinguishable, when he finally hit the bin!!
Great post, real fun,
Yvonne
I unfortunately do not have any of my childhood stuffed animals. I do have a Scooby Doo that my sister gave me in 2000, A Christmas bear I bought that stays out all year, and two teddies that friends got for me when I was doing chemo. I don't think I will be getting rid of any of these!
How are you?

While I still have a couple of stuffed animals from when I was younger, I don't know any men that still have them (or will admit to it!). Think it's a little strange for an adult of either gender to take a stuffed animal on holiday or have them boss around their significant other.
And we already knew that Husband dearest was a romantic! So sweet that he bought you so many teddies!
A woman can defintiely pull it off easier than a man can.
