TREE BOOKS.

Firstly, My thanks to you all for your best wishes on my 3rd blogoversary, your friendship and support means a lot to me ....... which brings me to

My apologies to you all that I haven't been doing a lot of visiting recently. Amongst several other health issues I have what turns out to be a Chalazion (that's a  type of cyst to you and me) on my eyelid which has made computing and reading painful.

Not that my eye has been the only problem, I have also had problems leaving comments on some of your blogs and though I have managed to contact several of you via other means (E-mail/FB) I still can't get in contact with JOAN so Joan, if you happen to be reading this, my sincere apologies, is it possible for me to get in touch with you any other way?

Anyway ...........

I promise I won't go on (well, not much anyway) as I think by now most of you know I prefer tree books (what a lovely expression) to E-books but I just had to post this extract from an article in which popular author JOANNA TROLLOPE has come out in favour of 'real' books. To read the full article, click HERE.

iPads  and kindles will never replace the printed page , Joanna Trollope has suggested, because "you cannot love a library of e-books".
The best-selling author said it was impossible to furnish a room with a library of electronic novels in the same way as a study filled with bound works.

Nothing new in that idea, what did make me pause for thought was this next statement .......

She also claimed the rise of e-books was “homogenising” literature by putting the works of Leo Tolstoy (Russian author, essayist and philosopher wrote the epic novel War and Peace)  and Katie Price (Glamour model turned author in as much as, if not actually written by her, her books were her idea, Katie's endeavours include several novels as well as several 'horsey' books for children and four autobiographies, none of which she has actually read) on the same screen.

Ugh, what an awful thought OR that's the beauty of E-books? You tell me.

Good morning! I wholeheartedly agree... I have what I call "The Reading Room". Others would call it a library. It hold about a thousand books that I love to go and glance upon choosing one.... for my next read.

I do have an e-reader, for travel purposes, but I will always prefer a real tree book, something I can touch, smell and hang on to that is not cold and does not requite a charged battery in order to read it :)

I haven't jumped on the ebook bandwagon yet, but I do see the advantage. I know lots of people that read all of their books on their kindle but buy the books they really love.

Petty, I also prefer tree books. I don't have an eReader per se, and I don't read many eBooks, but I imagine that a Kindle or a Nook would be a nice addition to my library, and that I'd get used to reading on it before too long.

I hope your eye problem is resolved soon.

I like both. And it doesn't really matter to me which I'm reading, unless it has pictures. My old Kindle isn't up to them. And if I'm reading out loud with Amber, we always use a "tree book," they're easier to share.

And I don't really mind Tolstoy and the model on the same screen, after all there's a good chance they'd be on the same shelf in my house.

Tree Books. I like that :)

I'm one that likes both. Took me forever to try the e-books, but now I love mine.

So sorry to hear about your health woes!! I'm sure the whole eye business is really frustrating. Hope everything is cleared up soon!

Can't comment as I haven't tried any e-books yet. What I can tell you is that I just love the library.

Feel better soon.

I hope you feel much better soon. TAke care of it!

I like tree books, but also see that ebooks are useful too. I've been able to get classics w/o leaving the home and usually they are either free or cheap. I like that. I also read everything so I would have a classic with something cheesy on the same list. :)

I cannot agree with you more than I do now on this.
E- books? Well they are like having robots for ones spouse.

Love the term "tree books"! I resisted eBooks for a long time, but finally jumped on the bandwagon for travel purposes. I'll always prefer tree books, but love the convenience of eBooks!

so true! I too prefer printed books over ebooks. I like the smell of my books and it really makes me happy to see any addition to my lovely bookshelf.

Hope your eye is feeling better! That sounds painful! And I'd like to point out that you could shelve those same two books on the same shelf right next to each other! E-books have their place!!! : )

Happy blogoversary! *throws confetti* I'm SO there with you on the "real" books or tree books (<--love that term!). It's a different reading experience and the author is quite right....they don't have quite the same presence as electronic files now do they?
Happy reading!
