LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE.

THE LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE by LAURA INGALLS WILDER.

The sun-kissed prairie stretches out around the Ingalls family, smiling its welcome after their long, hard journey across America.
But looks can be deceiving and they soon find that they must share the land with wild bears and Indians.
Will there be enough land for all of them?

...... From the outer back cover.

FIRST SENTENCE: A long time ago, when all the grandfathers and grandmothers of today were little boys and little girls or very small babies, or perhaps not even born, Pa and Ma and Mary and Laura AND Baby Carrie left their little house in the Big Woods of Wisconsin.

MEMORABLE MOMENT: That was all, but it meant Laura must not complain. So she did not complain any more out loud, but she was still naughty, inside. She sat and thought complaints to herself.
There really is only one word to describe this, the second book in The Little House series - sweet.
Sweet but not so sweet as to be sickly, it has its moments of drama that prevent it from being overly saccharine.
A gentle, nostalgic read and very much a 'little girls' book, I can't help but think that many of today's children may find it a little old fashioned and outdated though I'm sure just as many will enjoy it as a book that was read by previous generations of women in their family.
The Little House On The Prairie was ex-library stock purchased at a library sale.

That nostalgic feel can be so memorable in a story.

I loved the Little House series when I was a girl. I keep trying to get my girls to read them. I think the TV series helped stir my interest.

I'll be honest and admit I've never read any of the "Little House" books nor have I watched the TV show. I'm thinking one of my daughters read some of the books, though.

I was excited to find something in my mailbox from you yesterday! You'll hear back from me before too long.

My Mom's been trying to get me to read that series forever-your description exactly matches what I'd judged from it. :)

I feel such nostalgia just reading this and seeing the books. Certain books must read at certain times of your life and this is one ... I don't think I'll revisit it.

I loved the Little House series when I was a girl -- read them over and over. It's interesting to see a British point of view of one of these books!
