AWARD OR NOT?

I've been thinking about awards these last few days, partly because of an award I was sent by Nina at J'ADOREHAPPYENDINGS and partly because of several blogs discussing the various merits (or otherwise) of them.

Personally, like 9 out of 10 other bloggers, I'm honoured to receive them as, though I've always maintained I blog largely for my own pleasure, it is nice to know that there are people out there who like what you have to say. AND .... they are a great way of discovering blogs that you may not have otherwise known about.

No, my only real concerns about awards are (A) just how many times people really want to hear 10 more things they didn't know about me and (B) should Pen And Paper ever become so popular that people are sending me awards left, right and centre (well I can dream), will I eventually run out of things not known about me?

However I can understand what other bloggers mean when they say that, though grateful for any awards received, there just aren't enough hours in the day to post whatever it is they blog about let alone post about the awards they receive.

Umm.

Not asking for 10 more things not known about me was Nina's award which instead asked me to answer the following questions using only one word answers. Oh dear! Not known for using only one word when I could use half a dozen, I'll give it a try.

YOUR CELL PHONE? - Mobile?
YOUR HAIR? - Natural
YOUR MOTHER? - Mam
YOUR FATHER? - Absent
YOUR FAVOURITE FOOD? - Laughs
YOUR DREAM LAST NIGHT? - Woodpecker
YOUR FAVOURITE DRINK? - Milkshake
YOUR DREAM/GOAL? - Mobility
WHAT ROOM ARE YOU IN? - Study
YOUR HOBBY? - Books
YOUR FEAR? - Surgery
WHERE DO YOU WANT TO BE IN 6 YEARS TIME? - Holidaying
WHERE WERE YOU LAST NIGHT? - Bed
SOMETHING THAT YOU AREN'T - Thin
MUFFINS - Chocolate?
WISH LIST ITEM? (New) Leg
WHERE DID YOU GROW UP? - Wardley
LAST THING YOU DID? - Phoned
WHAT ARE YOU WEARING? - Why?
YOUR TV? - Comedies
YOUR PETS? - Deceased
YOUR FRIENDS? - True
YOUR LIFE? - Contented
YOUR MOOD? - Sunny
MISSING SOMEONE? - Always
VEHICLE? - Wheelchair
SOMETHING YOU AREN'T WEARING? - Frown
YOUR FAVOURITE STORE? - Evans
YOUR FAVOURITE COLOUR? - Yellow
LAST TIME YOU LAUGHED? - Minutes
BEST FRIEND? - Yes
ONE PLACE YOU GO TO AGAIN AND AGAIN? - Toilet
FACEBOOK? - Daily
FAVOURITE PLACE TO EAT? - Simply Greek

Well that wasn't too difficult. Much harder is the fact that I've been asked to pass it onto 5 other bloggers - the one thing I dislike about awards.

Cowardly I know but I'm going to pass this onto any one who cares to have it on the condition that they answer the questions on their blog and leave a comment to let me know they have done so in my comment box in order that we have the opportunity to visit and, hopefully, learn a little bit more about each other. Oh and I'll periodically update the post linking to those who join in. Knowing how to use Mr Linky would be useful right now but, hey-ho, I'll cope.

Not meant for today, I had meant to schedule this post for tomorrow but (whoops!!!!) pressed the wrong button.

If you haven't already done so please see the post that was actually meant for today, a book review of The Good Thief which I know many of you have read - I'd love to know what you thought of it.

What a fun list.

I rather like receiving awards, but I also think it is difficult to pick and choose among all my wonderful blog friends. So sometimes I skip that part of it and only mention the fact that I have received this and that award.

I think it is important to accept that some people love receiving them while others are less keen.

I agree with Dorte. It can be a task, choosing who to pass it on to.

BTW, nice meme.

I have hit the post button early before too. :)

I think the awards are especially nice for new bloggers as a way to network and get their name out there. I still feel honored to receive them, but after the first year of blogging I decided that it was just taking too much away from the regular content of my blog to do special posts. So I now have a page that is solely devoted to awards (it's linked in my sidebar). On that page I recognize those who have given me an award, but I don't usually follow whatever instructions are attached the award. I'm just rebellious I guess. (Now that I'm thinking about it I really need to update that page.)

I'm better (slightly) about playing along with these in e-mails than on my blog.

I enjoyed reading yours, though!

Great job on the list. I have trouble with the one word association thing to. I think it's because there are a lot of things I'm ambiguous about. Not sure.

I personally stopped doing the awards things a while back. It just got too time consuming ... and honestly, some of them felt like "chain letters." I'm torn ... of course it is nice to be recognized but I tend to skip over most of these posts anyway -- whether they are about me or not.

Thank you for sharing about yourself. You really can convey a lot with one word. I've learned, in one sentence, that you are a positive person with a sense of humor who has friendship in her life and a love of reading. Close?

Nice job you've done. I am not ready for this. The thing is, really I need to think and do not have patience to do these things. i would rather read more blogs of my friends and comment on them.

I'm still yet to express my gratitude for my award. I've been superbusy giving my degree the care and attention she deserves, but I'll stop being solipsistic soon. Esta é uma promessa.

Did you know that this ten things thing inspired one of my blog posts, that I called "Scratch the Surface?" Just thought you might want to know. I hope you are fine; I haven't heard from you lately. I have sent you some emails as well, including a RECIPE!

Revd. Neal Terry said...

Please don't send her recipes. In her world, the kitchen is something that just happened to come with the house and has no function other than somewhere to keep her husband occupied.

Congratulation on the award. I agree I love being given them but I rarely pass on - for one thing time wise and another I love so many blogs I feel bad choosing just a few.
