MISTLETOE MAGIC IN THE HIGHLANDS.

MISTLETOE MAGIC IN THE HIGHLANDS by BELLA OSBORNE.

Olivia Bingham has bad luck with men.

She’s been ghosted more times than she can count, but this Christmas she’s finally met someone really special online: Fraser Douglas, a Scottish chef working at an idyllic hotel in the Highlands. He’s sweet and sensitive, thoughtful and funny – not to mention incredibly good looking.

Just when she thinks things couldn’t be going any better, Fraser’s dating profile vanishes, and Olivia fears the worst. Frustrated and wounded, Olivia decides she’s going to drive all the way out to Loch Lochy Hotel and confront Fraser.

But when she arrives, things don't go exactly as she hoped. Worse still, Fraser doesn’t seem to have any idea who she is...

An easy, no spice to speak of read but then I'm afraid I'd didn't rate Olivia and Fraser as a couple; finding her a bit wishy-washy and him, well, I found him a total grump but, unlike Mr T {just don't tell him I said this} not in an endearing Eeyore kind of way, together they lacked in any meaningful chemistry.

Plot wise. Hmm! There just seemed to be several aspects of the story that were skimmed over, the ghosting of Olivia 'Liv' for example that, having been mentioned at the beginning, was not really mentioned again until the end.
I did however love the setting, I mean where better than a run-down hotel in the Highlands of Scotland {sigh} ... especially at Christmas.
In a nut shell, not what I'd call a full-on Christmas story but with enough of a festive feel {think of those ready-made for TV seasonal Hallmark films} that I can certainly think of worse books to curl up with under my favourite blanket in the run-up to Christmas.

Bella Osborne has been jotting down stories as far back as she can remember but decided that 2013 would be the year that she finished a full length novel. In 2016, her debut novel, It Started At Sunset Cottage, was shortlisted for the Contemporary Romantic Novel of the Year and RNA Joan Hessayon New Writers Award. Bella's stories are about friendship, love and coping with what life throws at you. She likes to find the humour in the darker moments of life and weaves these into her stories. Bella believes that writing your own story really is the best fun ever, closely followed by talking, eating chocolate, drinking fizz and planning holidays. She lives in the Midlands, UK with her lovely husband and wonderful daughter, who thankfully, both accept her as she is (with mad morning hair and a penchant for skipping).

Children love building snowmen. When they add a nose, eyes, and mouth to their snowman, they get a magical feeling that their snowman has his own personality.

And… sometimes snowmen do come alive!

Charlotte wakes up and sees that it’s snowing… it’s snowing and it’s snowing. She runs outside to build a snowman. She fixes a carrot for the snowman’s nose, a stick for his mouth, and two stones for his eyes.

But the snowman has many demands, so Charlotte has to part with her gloves, scarf and hat; so her snowman wouldn’t feel cold. But the sun comes up all of a sudden, and Charlotte cannot find her snowman anymore. She is sad. Then, she learns that her snowman hasn’t disappeared completely, but is hiding in the ground, waiting to emerge next winter.

A great book for those children who miss their much loved snowman when winter is over.

A charming winter's tale. Perfect for reading whilst cuddled up in a favourite blanket, Charlotte's Snowman will leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.

Put in mind of the time of the time when our niece {now in her 30's} cried when her Uncle {aka Mr T}, having maintained that indoors was no place for the snowman he had just built her, left him outside to face the elements; that she awoke the following morning to find her new friend gone, nothing but a carrot left, well, you can imagine.

Charlotte understood that her snowman had melted under the hot sun.

She missed him very much. He was such a wonderful snowman, the best she'd ever made!

The truly magical read of a truly magical snowman who like all snowmen before him was destined to 'disappear' {if you get my meaning} once the sun showed its face and the snow began to melt. I cannot begin to tell you how much I adored this delightful read with its big, bold, colour illustrations that helped bring the story to life.

Such a wonderful way to celebrate winter, I can see this becoming a firm seasonal favourite to be brought out every year.

Lainey Dee was born in Birmingham and grew up in Kidderminster, Worcestershire.

The author of Charlotte's Snowman, Let's Celebrate Being Different and Rodasauri the Dinosaur's Trip to London.

Lainey was inspired to write for young people having worked with children for many years. Lainey currently looks after twins aged five years. A huge art deco fan, she lives in an art deco house which is decorated in that period style. In her free time, she enjoys baking and cooking for friends and visiting national trust properties.

Her favourite ice cream is strawberry and the strangest place she has slept in was a tepee Texas.

She enjoys using her imagination to invent new stories and characters. Lainey hopes her books will help readers see themselves and the world differently and understand how special they are.
