“Sniff, Snuffle, Sniff!”

“Can you smell the delicious aroma coming from this book?

It’s time for afternoon Tea...Slurrrp!”

Meet Buddy.  He loves food, food and more food.  But he’s not just a hound on a scrounge – Buddy has a wonderful true story about afternoon tea that he would love to share with you.

“I hope you can join me...ooh, but hurry! They’re bringing out the food...Woofety Woof! ... Synopsis

Sniff, sniff, sniffetty sniff! ... First Sentence {Page not numbered}

Tilt your head to one side, like this.

Make a sad face, like this.

Now, make a quiet, whining sound, like this.

Awoooooo!

You've just learnt to say 'please' in doggy language! ... Memorable Moment {Page not numbered}

My giddy aunt! If I had to have bought only one children's picture books this year  it would have been this one.

OK, so I'm a sucker when it comes to picture books about dogs but  this charming book all about about Buddy, a Hound On A Scrounge, takes the {I make no apologies for the pun} biscuit.

Written through a dog's eyes, this is the delightful story of Buddy who invites us to afternoon tea ... only there are one or two problems along the way,  not least of which is 'You're not a doggy, only doggies are allowed under the table.

But wait! Buddy has the answer in a story that encourages role play as he invites children to 'Pretend to be a doggy'; to show their paw, to say please in doggy language and so on.

That Buddy gives encouragement throughout, offering a gold star, something that children will love; that he reminds children 'No scrounging or eating food that's fallen on the floor - you're a human, not a doggy', a lovely note on which to end the book and one that is guaranteed to raise a smile.

A sweet, fun read wound into which are some interesting facts about the origins of afternoon tea {all of which have been passed down to Buddy by his various ancestors} which, combined with the beyond cute illustrations by Martynas Marchiusm, make this a book that will delight readers both young and young at heart.

About Maria Bucci ... I have always loved children’s books and, after studying various picture book courses, I decided to take the plunge and write my own. Hoping to educate and entertain, as well as involve the young reader, my debut also includes a bit of history. When I’m not writing, I enjoy taking the real Buddy hound on long walks and spending time with my family. I also love to bake, sing and paint but sadly, I have not mastered doing all three at the same time!
