FANTASTIC FIN FACES HIS FEARS.

One of several bloggers who over five days will be participating in this Blog Tour (the full list of which can be found in the Schedule at the bottom of the post). Today {the 1st day of the Tour) its my pleasure to be sharing my thoughts on ...

Fantastic Fin Faces His Fears by Jessica Bowers.

Target Age: Children (ages 4-7)

Genre:  Children's Rhyming Picture Book

Publication Date: Mid August 2021

Standalone First Book in a new series

Estimated Page Count: 28

'Fantastic Fin' embodies a variety of different inspiring characters and animals, which help him to grow his courage and face his fears throughout the story. There is a 'Fear Factfile' at the back for children, along with some tips for parents too. ... Synopsis

Fantastic Fin is brave today,

but he wasn't always this way.

Always fantastic, this is true,

his braveness was a seed that grew. ... First Verse

Then came a boy who did not share,

he scowled and growled and caused a scare.

Fin and his friends felt some worry,

unsure how to sort the bully. ... Memorable Moment, Page not numbered

MY THOUGHTS ... A fun, wonderfully illustrated rhyming story in which young Fin faces some of his fears; fears such as his being shy, his being afraid of the classroom bully, his being scared of the dark all of which of course are common in young children.

A fun story, yes; the rhyming verse, the repetitive phrases, the bright illustrations that are certain to appeal to young children all great ways of engaging them but more than that ...

Fantastic Fin offers a great way to open up discussions with children; to get them thinking of/talking about solutions to Fin's fears, to get them talking about their own fears and coming up with solutions as to how they might be overcome, as to how they might help their siblings/fellow class mates overcome any fears they might have.

That at the end of the book there is a 'Fear File' which offers some advice for children and a 'Tips For Parents' page, that there is free 17 page resource pack that accompanies the book - you can find it here at www[dot]jessicabowers[dot]co[dot]uk - a bonus.

This sounds like a fun, but very useful book. I think kids of any age seem to connect well to rhyming stories.

Felicity,
I, too think that this is a fun
book with how it is set up with
rhymes. And I can see how it could
start discussions among children
about Fin's and their own fears.

My great-nephew, who is five, but has a much older reading age, would love this. I don't think anyone has tried him with a rhyming verse book yet, but as he has such a good understanding of the words he is reading, I'm sure he will soon get the idea of the humour and how to form each sentence to make them sound rhyming. I know that his school has already broached the subject of bullying too and the lovely illustrations help to keep it real!

Thanks for sharing and I hope that you are back in rude health now! :)

Sounds like a book for all kids, as everyone has a fear of something!
