Robberty Bobberty, hippity-hop,
Hopping and jumping, he just won't stop.
- First Verse

"Roll into a ball," said hedgehog, "like this.
You'll have such fun, it will be bliss."
They rolled him into a barrow, nearby,
"Look all around you, look low and look high."
- Favourite Moment, Page Un-numbered

MY THOUGHTS ...  Written in rhyme, a perfect length for little ones; given that it ends with his mother tucking Robberty Bobberty up in bed I would suggest it makes for ideal bedtime reading ... except that its one of those books that, come the end, cries of 'again!' are only to be expected.

A delightful tale of friendship that was enjoyed immensely by not only myself but also my three year old assistant who, as it turns out, is quite the connoisseur when it comes to picture books for children his age. The story finished we had endless fun talking about what we had just read and seen; my assistant instigating a game of 'spot the hedgehog', the hedgehog (my favourite animal), one of several creatures to feature in the book, each of whom has something to enlighten us ... if only like Robberty Bobberty we stop long enough to discover what friends and the world around us have to teach.

SUMMED UP IN A SENTENCE ... A wonderfully joyous story which, combined with the most delightful illustrations, is bound to thrill no matter the age of the reader.

My thanks to Rachel Coverdale, author of, amongst other books, Who Hides Here? Footprints on the Farm (my review of which can be found here), for sending me a copy of Robberty Bobberty.

Felicity,
This sounds like a precious and
delightful book. Both from what you
said in your enthusiastic review
and from what you shared of your
expert assistant's opinion.

I am not sure what to make of dancing flies (I have a strong aversion to flies), but this does sound like a fun book.

Certainly sounds like it has some timely reminders for our go go go mentality...and what adorable illustrations!
