HIGH SCHOOL QUEENS.

High School Queens (The High School Queens Trilogy Book 1)HIGH SCHOOL QUEENS by ZACHARY RYAN.

They all thought they did a masterful job of keeping their secrets close to their chest. These stupid fools thought they were the high court of this kingdom, but they had no clue who was really pulling the strings. You might wonder to yourself, who would be that heartless to make them backstab their friends, expose other's secrets, and lose their morals? You don’t need to know who I am, but you better remember my name, The Marked Queen.

Danielle, Andrew, Delilah, Aman, and Jasmine all are now faced with a mysterious villain whose one goal is to ruin each of their lives. They must protect their secrets at all cost, or they'll be the next victim on Marked Day. They know what’s at stake, and they’ll stop at nothing to continue being: the rich spoiled girl, the normal teenager, the girl who isn’t banging the principal, the straight vlogger, and the girl who isn’t her dad’s punching bag. What happens when The Marked Queen changes up the game just in time for prom? Will each of our favorite puppets survive? Or are they willing to backstab each other just to keep up their personas? The only thing lost at this prom wasn’t going to be their virginity.

Sex, Lies, and High School Queens explores the major theme of self-acceptance. Can they learn to accept all their flaws or pray victim to The Marked Queen? Each chapter continues to fill your sweet tooth until the climactic moment at the prom where you get to have that final bite of the bitch cake you’ve been dying to consume.
- Back Cover Blurb

They've always said a Queen would know her rule on the kingdom she's built , by the reaction of her worshippers.
- First Sentence; Chapter 1

".... We don't get to be proud when we were raised that homosexuality is an abomination. I don't get to love myself, because its in my DNA to hate a part of me."
- Memorable Moment; Page 97

SOURCE ... Received with thanks from the author.

READ FOR A CHALLENGE? ... No.

MY THOUGHTS ... Characters that you get the feeling are more than just characters to the author. Reading this, the first book in a trilogy, one cannot help but think that he lives and breathes high school students Aman, Calvin, Danielle and co, feeling their pain as each struggles with their inner demons; trying to hide their secrets from The Marked Queen

A real labour of love into which he obviously poured his heart and soul, its evident that not only does he write for and about teenagers but he actually gets them.

Its chapters short and snappy, the plot played out as the reader jumps from one character to another in a story that is very much character based.

Covering many of the topics that beset today's teenagers/young adults; body shaming, self harm, sexual desire,  alcohol abuse, 'coming out' ... its all there in a story that sees a group of teens trying to find their place in not just school but society.

While I'm sure the message is excellent, I'm just not sure it's one for me.

He packed a lot into this book! Sounds like you enjoyed it, yes?

Characters that mean a lot to an author are often the best characters. Harold Bloom wrote about how some great characters got away from their authors and took on a life of their own.

Sounds like a book that a lot of high school students (and those who have been in high school) can relate to. I am glad to hear you enjoyed the character development. Thanks for sharing. :)

Hi Tracy,

It's good to discover an author who writes for an audience he knows he can relate to and sounds like he does it well and with great empathy. The ratings and reviews (including your own of course), back this up, as they are amazing!

Not one for me I'm afraid, but I can see this doing well in the YA shelf space. Thanks for sharing :)

Tracy,
Even with all the truly heartfelt
issues with which the book deals.
For my part, I am uncertain about
it. But thank you for sharing.
