PRESS RELEASE:
Title: Poet Of The Wrong Generation.
Author: Lonnie Ostrow.
Genre: Mainstream fiction, Contemporary Romance.
Book Description (Contains what may be considered spoilers. TT): “It’s not that I don’t love you, and my tears are yet to dry. But you can’t go back and forth forever and we’ve already said goodbye.”
Through these words, a young poet unearths his musical soul while severing ties with the woman he loves after her stunning betrayal. Unknowingly, in writing this ballad of liberation, he will soon evolve as one of the fastest rising stars on the pop music landscape.
The year is 1991; the place, New York City. Here we meet Johnny Elias, a college student from Brooklyn with boundless adoration for two things in life: timeless popular music, and the heart of a sweet, complicated young woman who is clearly out of his league.
Megan Price not only is the object of Johnny’s affection, but also the only daughter of New York’s most powerful PR woman: the indomitable Katherine Price.
Projecting that her daughter’s boyfriend will never live up to the family standard, Katherine cleverly perpetrates a series of duplicitous schemes to rid Johnny from her high-class world. But in her callous disregard, she inadvertently sets him on a determined course to his improbable musical destiny - while sending her own daughter spiraling down a path of devastation.
Poet of the Wrong Generation tells the symmetrical story of a lovable underdog and his meteoric rise to stardom, his humiliating downfall and his unprecedented attempt to reclaim his place as the unlikely musical spokesman for his generation. At the heart of Poet is a tale of star-crossed lovers and their struggle with unforeseen success and disillusionment, in an attempt to rediscover lasting harmony.
Uniquely integrating a variety of original song compositions, Poet projects the epic clash between true contentment and the fable of stardom’s rewards; a nostalgic journey through the major events of the 1990s, with a cherished cast of characters and a stunningly unpredictable conclusion.

MY THOUGHTS: Hmm. Such is the author's ability in bringing to life the characters of this novel that I couldn't help but wonder if it was in any way autobiographical ... or at least inspired by someone well known to him.
The story of relationships: one of them sweet yet poignantly painful, one of them menacingly manipulative, of star-crossed lovers, of an adolescent, a poet, on the verge of manhood, his (or is she?) girlfriend, his girlfriend's mom and the friend that is to become his mentor, all interlaced with some truly hauntingly evocative poems/song lyrics which can be found on the author's website, LonnieOstrow.com .... not something I'd necessarily have thought to have liked but it worked surprisingly well, adding a whole new dimension to the book overall.
Looking forward to a sequel. There will be a sequel Mr Ostrow, right?

I think sometimes the best reads are the ones that reflect things, feelings, situations the author has known more personally. The write what you know effect. '_' Thanks for the share!
Hmmm. Well I was having my doubts, thinking this wasn't really to my liking ... but your positive review makes me reconsider.
I'm glad you enjoyed it enough to want more.
Tracy, I'm glad you enjoyed this. (I was expecting a poetry book!)
Tracy, thank you kindly for posting this review. I'm happy to answer any questions that you and your readers may have about my novel.
For starters, the characters in "Poet" are purely from my imagination. Sure, there are elements of myself in Johnny. He is credited with writing and performing the songs that I composed when I was in my early 20s. We also share a love for the great singer-songwriters of the 1960s and 70s. As for the other characters, while there are traits of multiple people from my life inside of them, none was specifically inspired by a single individual with the possible exception of Howard Greffen (Johnny's musical mentor).
As for a sequel, I didn't intend to write one when I began this project. I saw this as one complete story, covering the main events in the life of Johnny and Megan. However, the ending does leave open the possibility for a continuation of the story. So, if the demand exists, I would consider writing a sequel.
I look forward to the feedback from your readers as they read my novel.
With every good wish,
Lonnie Ostrow (Author of Poet Of The Wrong Generation)
I tend to like stories that centered on the music business. It has always been an interest of mine.
Good stories about relationships are also always of interest.

Your review makes me want to read this one. I love that the characters are so well done that you are wondering if it is part autobiographical. That says a lot! Thanks for sharing. :)
