THE SANTA CLAUS LEAGUE by STEPHEN MILLER.

Twas the night before Christmas ....

Julia Martin is the most incredible girl in school, and Mason Howell is hopelessly smitten by her. Julia in charge of the local Charity Christmas party and she’s pleased with how everything is going...until her Santa Claus calls in sick. In a panic, she begs Mason to help her by wearing his grandfather’s heirloom Santa Claus suit. Mason agrees, to impress the beautiful girl, but things don’t go as planned...as soon as he puts on the suit, he gets all the powers of Santa Claus!

Together with John Patton, Mason’s best friend, they learn his grandfather was a member of an ancient league of men and women dedicated to helping St. Nicholas use Christmas magic to save the world. The three of them could become the newest members of the Santa Claus League...if they can learn the secrets of Christmas magic!

FIRST SENTENCE (Chapter 1: The Magic Box): I've discovered a lot about Christmas lately, more than I ever thought possible.

MEMORABLE MOMENT (Page 139): St. Nicholas loved sharing entertaining moments with whoever was interested; Facebook and Twitter had nothing on social networking at the North Pole.

MY THOUGHTS: A wonderful take on the Santa Claus story, I loved how Clement Clarke Moore's epic poem Twas The Night Before Christmas was so cleverly used. And though not always a fan of the 'character reinvention' I thought Rudolph great fun.

Featuring not just one 'Santa' but a whole league of them. This is the story of how teenager Mason and his friends, Julia and John, get to not only save a charity Christmas event but become a crime busting trio into the bargain.

Super holiday reading with a great moral message at its heart. With just the right amount of Christmas good cheer and action its perfect for both sexes and whilst Julia (who I thought a great role model for girls) and Mason's relationship is that of girl/boy friend it is very sweet and, never going beyond the hand holding/slight kiss, is suitable for the younger reader.

Given that there is mention of Dickens' A Christmas Carol at the end I'm hoping this won't be the last we see of this very special league.

This sounds wonderful, Tracy. I appreciate the mention of Julia being a great role model for girls. I'm always on the look out for books with characters like that.

I do like retellings so I think I will enjoy this one. I also love a Christmas Carol, so that was good to have it mentioned.

Hi Tracy,

Although I personally don't read seasonal books per se, this does sound as though it has a reasonable storyline and is quite fun as a Christmas read.

Good Luck with the rest of the challenge.

I like it when contemporary books tie into works of classic literature.

I can see how Twas The Night Before Christmas could be neatly tied into a narrative such as this.
