HOVIS THE HEDGEHOG: BONFIRE NIGHT.

HOVIS THE HEDGEHOG: BONFIRE NIGHT by Lynda Leigh-Crawford & Lawrence David.

BACK COVER IMAGE ...

AMAZON.CO.UK BLURB: This is an enchanting tale of Hovis the hedgehog. Who has to say a sad farewell to his home, as it is being used for a bonfire on Guy Fawkes night. He scurries to the nearby forest to find shelter and a new home.

FIRST LINE OF FIRST VERSE: Children building higher and higher, they're getting excited about lighting the fire.

MEMORABLE MOMENT: The illustrations.

SOURCE: A gift from Mr T for my hedgehog book collection.

MY THOUGHTSA good addition for the home/school library but I have read better, much better, when it comes to books with an environmental message at their heart.

Written - not particularly well it has to be said (some of the rhyme is pretty lame, the grammar not always what it might be) - in verse. My concern being that the message behind the story (that of wildlife and fire safety come November the fifth) whilst an important one, far outweighs the actual telling of the story.

Still, good illustrations though the more I look at Hovis the less typically cute and cross-looking I find him.

The illustrations look cute! Too bad the text wasn't quite as good.

I guess some things can be overlooked given it's still a hedgehog story. :) However, it's a shame you didn't like it better than you did.

I'm sorry this wasn't better. It sounds like there are books out there that do a better job getting the same message across as well as being entertaining.

HEDGIES! I knew you would love this one when I saw the illustration. So cute! Every time I see one online, I now think of you. :)

That cover is very, very cute and I love a book with illustrations! Shame the story and rhymes weren't as good as you'd hoped, but it still looks very cute for your hedgehog collection. - Tasha

I am also very partial to hedgehogs as well as environmental themes.

Too bad the writing was not better.

Great illustrations bring me great joy though I'm not sure if I can blind myself to the lame rhymes.

Tracy, it was sweet of Mr. T. to give you this book for your collection. I wish this had been more of a hit though. The drawings are darling.
