6 DEGREES OF SEPARATION #10: WILD.

At twenty-six, Rachel Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother's rapid death from cancer, her family disbanded and her marriage crumbled. With nothing to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life: to walk eleven-hundred miles of the west coast of America and to do it alone.

A monthly meme hosted by Annabel and Emma (click on their names to see where this months choice leads each of them), the idea being that they say every person on the planet can be linked to any other in six steps or less but what about books?

For myself Wild: A Journey From Lost To Found (not a book I've read) leads to ...

#1 LULLABIES FOR LITTLE CRIMINALS. The fictional account of another (much younger) young lady (Baby is twelve compared to Rachel's twenty-six) on a journey. A journey that far from holding promise, leads her in and out of foster homes, a detention centre and eventually onto the streets as a prostitute.

#2 THE GOOD THIEF. Another twelve year old (this one a boy), another institute (St Anthony's Orphanage), another journey (through nineteenth century New England), will the truth about Ren's parentage be something he really wants to know?

#3. THE TRUTH ABOUT MELODY BROWNE. Her house burnt down when she is nine, her childhood memories erased, the now thirty+ year old Melody Browne is at a hypnotist show when she faints, her memories coming back.

#4 THE MESMERIST. Another practise not without its fair share of charlatans and fraudulent chancers Miss Cordelia Preston, ageing, out of work actress, emerges as Lady Phreno. Her success unstoppable .... especially after she meets the enigmatic Monsieur Roland.

#5 THE NIGHT CIRCUS. Revolving around Le Cirque des Reves (The Circus Of Dreams), the story of two enigmatic, egotistical and, if their latest prodigies are anything to go by, cruel magicians who are engaged in a rivalry to end all rivalries.

#6 THE LOLLIPOP SHOES. Just as the night circus is simply there when yesterday it was not so just as the wind suddenly stops into the lives of Yanne and her daughters blows Zozie de l'Alba, the lady with the lollipop shoes.

I loved the Night Circus. Great chain. I feel like only book lovers can really understand this link.

Good job, Tracy...especially considering you haven't read the starting book. I haven't read it, either, (nor any of yours) and I'm not sure it's one that appeals to me. I might consider the movie version.

I love this. I've been intrigued by the Reese Witherspoon movie. I didn't realize it was based on a book but that makes sense.

I love seeing how you get from one book to another and connect all the dots!

It is difficult to find connections if the first book is one not read. But you certainly had a good list of connected books. Here is my list:

I haven't read any of the books on your list! (which is why this is such a fun meme!)

You always have such interesting books on your list Tracey. The Night Circus has been on my list for ages - many different people have recommended it to me.

Lovely selection Tracy. I really want to see the film of Wild but haven't as yet. I loved The Mesmerist.

Is it bad that I was laughing as I read this post? I love the connections you made--I never would have thought of a few of them, but they do work.

I have been confused by how this all connects when I've read past posts, but I think I finally get it. So, yay!
I have not read any of these books or heard of most of them, but I do find it interesting how you transition from one book to the next.
It is an interesting meme to be sure.
