SPIRIT AND DUST.

SPIRIT AND DUST by ROSEMARY CLEMENT-MOORE.

 SOURCE: A GoodReads win.

Speaking to the dead is nothing for Daisy Goodnight.

The living, on the other hand, can occasionally be a problem. Especially when they knock you out and kidnap you.

Willing or not, Daisy finds herself on a high-speed mission to track down a mob boss's precious daughter, but she's running out of time.

The dead are coming to take over.
....... Outer back cover.

FIRST SENTENCE (Chapter 1): The local cops kept staring at me.

MEMORABLE MOMENT (Page 248): Interrupting him was difficult, because as a spirit, he didn't have to stop for breath.

MY THOUGHTS: With a heroine you'll either loved or loathe, Daisy Goodnight (loved the name, loathed the character) is a feisty supposedly teenage physic who, seventeen and three quarters going on 30 in many ways, is employed by the FBI to help solve crimes of the supernatural variety.

Perhaps best described as 'Indiana Jones' spends 'A Night In The Museum'. I'm still not sure exactly what I made of this one. Starting out well and certainly not without its unique and humorous moments but by the end, verging on the farcical, it was anything but.

What I believe to be the second outing for the Goodnight Family, Spirit and Dust reads perfectly well as a standalone read and will, I suspect, appeal more to younger fans of this genre to whom it is aimed.

While this might be fun, I think I might have reached my saturation point on this genre. Oh...and did you know Charlaine Harris has a Sookie "wrap-up" book coming out in the fall that tells what happens to many of the characters in the future?

On another note, I finished Distant Suns - The Journey Home yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it! Thank you for telling us about Patricia Smith's books. I've enjoyed all of them.

Great review! I must admit the book's description intrigues me. Then again, I do love YA, Paranormal, and Mystery/Crime.

Think I'll skip this one.

Hi Tracy,

I don't think that this is a book for me. I am not a huge fan of the genre and it definitely sounds as though it would really only have any appeal to the teen market, as would seem to be backed up by the author's website, although Rosemary has written one book 'The Splendor Falls' that I did quite like the sound of.

Thanks again for your usual, honest views about the books you read, I always value that.

Aw... too bad it didn't rock for you. I think if I didn't like her either, it wouldn't bode well for the book for me. Hopefully the next is better.

This sounds like something I might like, although if the character isn't likable it might be a problem. Sometimes I can tolerate characters I don't especially care for--but usually those are books in which I'm not supposed to like them or at least have mixed feelings about them.

I like the cover and the book sounds interesting, but I am not sure if it is for me. I like that it could be a stand alone book.

Thanks for sharing!

Sounds enjoyable enough, but based on your review, I don't think it works well for an older audience!!

It actually sounds a little different from the typical Young Adult book that is so popular these days.

Too bad that it was a bit of a disappointment.

I think this sounds like fun and I like the name Daisy Goodnight.

Probably going to give this a miss though the name 'Daisy Goodnight' made me laugh aloud. (I do remember feeling like a 17-year-old going on 30 ... Those were grey times.)

Congrats for the win, sorry it wasn't a great read for you. Doesn't sound like my cup of tea either.
