FIRST THERE WERE TROLLS.

Not very likely is it?

Still trying to get my head around trolls, spammers, sock puppets and all other manner of internet nasties, today I discovered .......

Cue silent movie, creepy organ music signalling peril .......

Shoe Spammers

Shoe spammers?

That's right, shoe spammers.

Never heard of them?

No? Then you either aren't a FaceBook devotee or like me (and fingers crossed that by typing this I'm not tempting fate) you haven't been shoe spammed.

Apparently, or so I'm reliably informed, Shoe Spammers, rife on FB, hijack accounts and post images of (would you believe it) shoes with spam links to the online shoe stores in the captions thus clogging the victims/ friends timelines.

But that's not the worst of it, they then tag all friends so that anyone and everyone connected also gets to see the shoes and thus the online shoe stores.

Not clever, just annoying, frustrating, maddening, exasperating .... the list goes on.

I just don't understand why people have to do things like this....from the annoying to the downright criminal!

Wow! I hadn't heard of this one happening until now. I hope I don't get shoe spammed. That can't be fun.

Sock puppet was a big thing last year at Theakstons Crime Writing Festival in Harrogate... I believe it was discussed this year too (though I missed that panel this year).

I don't fancy being shoe spammed either!

Do they do it just for kicks (sorry, couldn't resist)? Someone should give these spammers the boot(again, couldn't resist).

Really? How bored does one have to be to come up with schemes like these? ~shakes head~

It sounds like all kinds of spammers might employ this trick, not just those who are trying to sell shoes. My great internet fear is to have an account hijacked. It is kind of our modern equivalent to demonic possesion.
