OVER THE MOON: MY AUTOBIOGRAPHY.

OVER THE MOON: MY AUTOBIOGRAPHY by DAVID ESSEX.

As a schoolboy with a mop of gypsy curls, David Essex thought only of becoming a footballer, but as a teenager he developed a passion for music which set him on a very different path, and ultimately  led to unimaginable fame and undreamt of adventure.

From Godspell to Eastenders, it's been an amazing life. And here is the full,  incredible story .... in his own words.
 ...... Outer back cover

FIRST SENTENCE (You can take the boy out of the east end ...): Over the years, people have made a lot of my relatively poor background and impoverished upbringing, but it never felt bad to me.

MEMORABLE MOMENT (Page 280): I just agree with what my mum always said: 'A land without gypsies is a land without freedom.'

MY THOUGHTS: An easy read (what I believe is an updated version of his first autobiography) Over the Moon begins with the stars formative years in the east end of London before quickly, very quickly, moving onto his rise to fame as a musician and star of the stage and screen.

What seems like a very honest autobiography, certainly this is a very down-to-earth, dignified and refreshing read in that there are no so-called 'kiss and tell' stories which feature in the biographies of so many 'celebs'.

Though I suspect this is a must have read for all of David's legion of fans (both old and new) it may well be of greater interest to his new fans, to those who know him primarily through his role as Eddie Moon in tv show EastEnders, as whilst there are one or two little documented facts much of the story is well known ..... even to someone who isn't a particularly big fan.

Bet his fans love this memoir!

Would that be the same David Essex that did "Rock On" back in the early 80s?

I think so Kelly though the song was actually a hit in the 70's. Are you a fan?

You've gotta love the inside peek at someone's life a book like this brings. Hopes, dreams, chances taken and missed...it all comes together to remind us all that life can take some serious twists and turns but in the end, we're all human; travelling the same road together. Thanks for sharing!

Petty, at first when I saw the title of your blog post in my feed, I thought it was YOUR autobiography! Or some sort of humorous post.

Glad you enjoyed this book!

I was never a fan, but I do enjoy reading about other people's lives so may give this one a go.
I’ve just passed the Very Inspiring Blogger Award along to you. I do hope you enjoy getting awards. Barbara x

I've heard of EastEnders, but haven't seen it. I'm glad you enjoyed the autobiography. There are some out there that are excellent.

Sounds like an interesting autobiography. Thanks for the review!

You're absolutely right. I looked it up and it was 1974. Yes, I loved that song (and still do).

I know the show Eastenders, though I've never seen it (though if some of the more current actors from Hollyoaks wrote a memoir, I'd totally read it, I have to admit!)

I like when artists I love have autobiographies; I should read more.

very rarely you get to read an honest autobiography. This sounds like one... :)

I always liked him (and his music lol). I'd like to read his book.

Eddie Moon!!! I watch Eastenders and thought what a nice looking fellow he is, never knew he was David Essex - I want him to come back to Eastenders now.
