THE QUESTION BEING ..........

........ Do I really want to go back?

I loved CHOCOLAT by Joanne Harris, I really must re-read it so that I can post my thoughts, not so much the 'sequel' The Lollipop Shoes, you can click HERE for my review, the question being doing I really want to go back to where it all began?

Yes, Joanne Harris has written a book in which Vianne travels back to the French village of Lansquenet-sous-Tannes.

Called Peaches for Monsieur le Curé, how has Lansquenet changed?

Well .......

The cobbled streets, the disused tanneries along the river – all are just as they always were. But on the edge of the village a community of Moroccans has arisen, with the scent of incense, spices, kif and mint tea, and facing the church, a minaret.
Set during Ramadan 2010 just before the French government bans the wearing of the Islamic veil, Lansquenet, like the rest of France, must exorcise its own demons – those of intolerance and xenophobia.

Perhaps too many changes?

As Joanne Harris explains in the Telegraph.......

In Peaches, life (and Vianne Rocher) have wrought their own changes in Reynaud (curé of the parish; leader of the town), and his role is different. I’m glad of this; I don’t believe in black-and-white portrayals of heroes and villains, and I’d always thought that he and Vianne had more in common than either of them suspected. As a result, in Peaches, both of them find themselves confronting the same adversary, as 21st-century politics enters their hitherto timeless world.

Hmm, still undecided, what thinks you?

PS. Published on the 24th of May by Doubleday Peaches for Monsieur le Curé is available to pre-order at many stockists including Amazon.

I've read a few of her other books, but not the ones revolving around this story. For some reason, the appeal just hasn't been strong enough. My favorite of hers was the one that took place at a boys' boarding school - can't recall the title at the moment.

It can be risky returning to the setting of a beloved story for a new story, as it may not live up to expectations. As you loved Chocolat, but didn't love The Lollipop Shoes as much, maybe borrow it instead of buying?

Eh, no. I'm afraid it won't be on my wish list. Curious cover though...and now I have a desire for a peach. *-*
