AWARDED :- Many thanks to Dizzy C @ DIZZY C'S LITTLE BOOK BLOG who last month did me the honour of passing on this award.
The rules? Share 8 facts about myself AND share some bloggy love by passing the award on.
Hmm, another 8 things about myself? You know I'm going to cheat a little here and rather than tell you anything specific about myself I'm just going to give you some facts connected with my birthday. Sound like fun? Then why not join me in doing a similar post, who knows we may even get to cover January through to December. Your reward? You get to find out some interesting things and I'll pass this award onto you.
- I was born in February which the anglo-saxons called Sol-manoth (cake month).
- 1968. What would my parents have been wearing? According to PAPER PAST YEARBOOK - "1968 was marked by the individualist in fashion, and by lawlessness. Anything went!"
- My birth flower is the violet which symbolises faithfulness, humility and chastity.
- My birth sign is Aquarius which makes me friendly, honest, loyal, original and intellectual as well as perverse, unpredictable, unemotional and detached.
- My birth stone, like my birth flower another purple, is the amethyst. From the Greek, it has an ancient reputation of preventing drunkenness.
- I was born in the year of the monkey which makes me clever, skillful and flexible though I tend to be too agreeable and look down on people.
- I share my birthday with the author SIDNEY SHELDON.
- My favourite colour is yellow which symbolises hope and happiness but, on the other hand, is the colour of cowardice and deceit.
ADOPTED:- Already the proud adoptive parents of a hedgehog, Spike, I was interested to read THIS POST on Kelly's blog which is all about perfectly good words no longer in usage in the English language. The only thing wrong with them? No one ever uses them any more and so they have been discarded.
And so, as suggested by Kelly, I found myself over at SAVE THE WORDS adopting ....
Phlyarolgist (one who talks rubbish) OR Uglyography (bad hand writing) OR Tussicate (to cough). No, my adopted word .......
WOUNDIKINS
(mild profanity)
"One of my greatest dislikes in a book is woundikins."
Sticking with words ....
RELAUNCHED:- The Oxford English Dictionary's (OED) online version was recently relaunched a decade after it first appeared on the Internet. The new version contains 600,000 words, three million quotations, covers more than 1,000 years of the English language, AND as well as providing words' meanings, allows readers to trace the evolution of the language with the help of the Historical Thesaurus.
Interesting to know that this online service will provide users with the opportunity to further understand the history of the Geordie dialect and may even settle one or two debates about words which, may or may not, have had origins in the north east of England.
Words such as .......
Geordie which it reveals first appeared in 1786 as another term for a guinea (a gold coin in usage between 1663 and 1813.
Charver. First used here in the north east in 1997 to describe a youngish person of loutish behaviour, given to wearing designer-style sports wear.

I would never be able to remember the words you adopted.haha
Congrats Petty, you certainly deserve many more of these:) And hey, I am an Aquarian too!!
These english words are too tough for me but still I will try to adopt one of them.
Congratulations! Great to see you got the award, you deserve it!
Well deserved award. Oh my god, these words exist.
I enjoyed all the February facts. A good way to approach your eight facts.
I'm glad you adopted a word! I need to remember to use my word more often. After all, as an aquabib, I never have a glass of water far from my hand (including now).
I can overlook the woundikins. It's the heavy stuff that really irks me.
Hope you're definitely on the mend now!
Congratulations on the award!
Happy birthday Petty.
But why did you stop at eight, Petty?
It was interesting.
Congratulations on the award! I was born February 1967!

Love the word 'uglyography'! Did you ever realize that the word 'ugly' is well, pretty 'ugly'?!
Congratulations on the award :D
You deserve the award! Hope you are getting ready for a wonderful Christmas. xo
The first time I ever really registered the word "Geordie", oddly enough, was when Ant & Dec were on SMTV Live & they used to have a challenge segment. You were meant to write in to "I'm Not Afraid of that Geordie Gasbag" if you wanted to play. Okay, now that I've proved my brain hangs onto bizarre things...
Congrats on your award!
