WAILKING IN BEAUTY OR IS SOMEBODY LYING?

Glad to be able to visit with you all over at CARA'S for another Freeverse.
As it's February and fast approaching the day that is designed:-
(A) To part us from our hard earned cash buying over-priced merchandise
OR
(B) With all us incurable romantics in mind
- Delete as applicable.
I thought I'd bring you not just one post to celebrate but at least 4 depending on how the mood takes me. Yes, I'll be posting a 'romantic' poem every Wednesday this month.
SHE WALKS IN BEAUTY by LORD BYRON.
She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellow'd to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face:
Were thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling place.
And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!
And perhaps in complete contrast,
UNFORTUNATE COINCIDENCE by DOROTHY PARKER.
By the time you swear you're his,
Shivering and sighing,
And he vows his passion is
Infinite, undying -
Lady, make a note of this:
One of you is lying.

I love both of these. Thank you for bringing them to me again. I'll have 'she walks in beauty like the night' with me all day like a piece of beautiful music.

Hehe.

Well, I love them both, but I hope it is Byron who speaks the truth!

Looking forward to your Romantic Poems!

I would give some thought into doing something really special though, because everyone will be doing this on the run up to Valentines Day.

Oh, Lord Byron, you rake! *swoons*

'Course, the Parker is a good bucket of cold water on the head ;)

As for men, Dorothy Parker was probably telling the truth about Lord Byron for sure -- because didn't he have a reputation for being quite the ladies' man?!

Looking forward to what you come up with for the rest of the month!

My first visit, Petty...know you from Kelly's blog. I shut my eyes and tried to recite the Byron from memory. I must be getting older, I missed 7 or 8 words.

The Dorothy Parker I'd never seen before and savored.

Great blog...

God I love Dorothy Parker ... I must confess I choose her over Lord Byron!
