HAPPY HOLIDAY.

As you can imagine lots of bloggers out there are posting about Thanksgiving. To be honest not an event I know a great deal about. Oh I know the basics about why they celebrate - the Pilgrim Fathers, the Mayflower, the turkey and the getting together of families, etc - you know the kind of stuff we, here in the UK, may have read about in books or, more likely, have seen portrayed in films. Time to Google then.

Ermm. Some very interesting sites out there, I've now learnt a lot more about the origins of Thanksgiving but, me being me, one of my favourite sites has to be this one which is dedicated to THANKSGIVING JOKES.

Ok, now I'm a little more educated about Thanksgiving, I'd like to share these with you.

Firstly over at Shellie's 'Layers Of Thought' I came across this Thanksgiving QUIZ. Then over at Grandmere Mimi's place 'Wounded Bird' I came across this wonderful Thanksgiving prayer.

May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey be plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
have never a lump.
May your yams be delicious
and your pies take the prize
and may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs.

Thanks to Susankay for sharing that little gem with Grandmere who also had some wonderful Thanksgiving cartoons on her blog. Click HERE to view them.

And talking of cartoons, I particularly liked this image on ALEXIA'S BOOKS AND SUCH which showed a cat looking longingly at a cooked turkey, cooling on a table. Why did I find this so amusing? Well, it happened to us, not exactly, but something similar.

Picture the scene if you will. It was Sunday morning, Husband dearest and I hadn't been married that long and were living in an upstairs flat with our two cats Dotty and Phog. (If you scroll down on the right hand-side there is a slide-show of our beloved PETS. Dotty is the black and white cat and Phog is the grey.) Anyway, we were sitting there, noses, no doubt in a newspaper or book, when, up the back stairs, we heard a thud followed by another thud and another. "What the .....?" said Husband dearest getting up to investigate. Only to find Phog coming up the stairs, dragging a side of beef behind her. Obviously left to cool by an open door/window, Phog had helped herself to it and decided to make a gift of it - I suppose it beat the usual bird or mouse.

Happy Thanksgiving.

LOL! That reminds me of a Christmas morning a few years ago, when I still had my beloved border collie, Harry. Early in the morning, I'd let him out into the garden to do "his business", and he came back in the house with a whole oven ready Chicken! Where this Chicken came from, we never found out, but someone went without their Christmas Dinner that day!
Harry, being Harry , would never have just taken it, so it is a mystery to this day!

Phog being Phog, on the other hand, wouldn't have thought twice. A cat with real attitude, she used to terrorise our neighbours dog.

Those cartoons were really funny. Thanks for providing the link.

That is such a funny story about your cats! I was going to say that we've never had anything like that happen, but I just remembered the year that our dog ate an entire mixing bowl full of Halloween candy while we were sleeping.

Hilarious!

I am impressed that you felt compelled to learn about thanksgiving! I would suggest watching reruns of the friends thanksgiving episodes - that's really what thanksgiving is about. :)

What a wonderful and amusing story, Petty. Phog must have been quite a cat. How does the story end? Did you return the side of beef?

How kind of you to take an interest in our wee holiday.

Grandmere: We never did get to find where the beef came from though we suspected it was our ground-floor neighbours. After a bit of a struggle, with much growling and clawing (and that was only us, you don't want to know about Phog)we eventually prised the beef from her mouth and put it in the bin. Too big for the cats to eat, it was suggested we eat it - needless to say, we didn't.

I so love that prayer. Too true. Hey Vivienne, there's no reason you can't have your own family Thanksgiving.

Petty Witter, would you please post for those of living over the pond what "bank holidays" are?

Thanksgiving is pretty much a time to eat a whole lot of food and hang out with friends and family. :) We watch movies play games on the wii... at least thats what happens at my house. :)
