Stories Which Captivate Readers.

I don't know what's wrong with me but I'm not enjoying reading at the moment -perhaps this is more to do with the book than me, but it is unusual all the same.

Years ago I read THE FAR PAVILIONS By M.M. Kaye and really enjoyed it so when Hubby brought in a copy of TRADE WIND last month I was delighted. Only problem is, I'm finding it really hard work and am not enjoying it at all but I can't give in and admit defeat so shall carry on despite having a large pile of books looking at me, begging to be read.

Anyway, this morning a catalogue from RED HOUSE arrived, this being a book catalogue aimed mainly at children but also young adults, inside of which was an article by children's author Andy Stanton entitled "Andy Stanton highlights the importance of magical stories which captivate readers." It's a really interesting read in which the author explores "What on earth is Magical Storytelling?" To find out for yourself merely click on 'Red House' and follow the links to Featured author, Andy Stanton.

P.S. Yes, I did order some new books. Well, they are at discounted prices plus the packaging and posting is free.
-'The Gates' by John Connolly
- 'The Declaration' and 'The Resistance' both by Gemma Malley.

Combine these three with the 4 ex-library books I bought at the weekend for the bargain price of £1.50 with the already large pile waiting to be read, add in the fact that tomorrow is my book club night and I'm going to be very busy reading - if only I could finish Trade Wind.

Funny you should say this:
'I don't know what's wrong with me but I'm not enjoying reading at the moment -perhaps this is more to do with the book than me, but it is unusual all the same.'

Because I have been having the same problem with the Book Army freebies!

I, too, read and enjoyed "The Far Pavillions" many years ago. Considering how big my "to read" stack is and your comments here, though, I don't think I'll be seeking out this book any time soon.

Rob: Must be something in the water. Do you carry on reading regardless or will you eventually admit defeat?
Kelly: Don't let me put you off - who knows you might enjoy it.
I'll be reviewing it sometime - don't know when but read it and review it I will.

I got my Red House magazine too this morning. I was quite taken by the Gemma Malley books too. I can't wait to hear about them.

Well, perhaps it is just time to put that book away. You might even enjoy it if you pick it up again later. Or at least I have experienced that once in a while.

Those books on the Red House catalogue look really good.

I am sorry to hear you are having a hard time with the book you are currently reading. I have had times where I just seem to be stalled. Maybe set it aside and go to another book first then come back later. I don't like doing that but sometimes I have to. Good luck with your reading.

I also wanted to let you know I have an award for you over at my blog. http://melissa-melsworld.blogspot.com/

Thanks for all your words of encouragement. I'm determined to plow on.
Thanks for those awards Melissa.

You are very welcome for the awards.

Good luck with moving ahead on the book. Maybe you will find you pace with it and then be in the groove.

Hi Petty! I have been remiss in checking in, but I see that you have been busy! When did you change the look of the blog? At first I thought I was at the wrong place!

Otherwise, I find it highly disappointing when the general tone of an author's work changes. How dare they? ;-)

Hi Susan, good to see you back. The blog was changed at the weekend - I had so much stuff in the side-bar that the old layout was beginning to look a bit cramped.

How dare they indeed!

I've hit reading snags like that before, when it becomes a chore just to finish the next chapter. It may not be the book, just that you're not in the right mood or simply need a change of pace.

I usually put the book down, move on, then try again down the road. Sometimes I can't understand why I was having such a hard time in the first place and breeze right through, other times the book simply isn't for me and I set it aside permanently.

If you have a huge TBR pile, then try another book and go back to Trade Wind later.

Book catalogues are dangerous things! Have never received one where I didn't place an order! *L*

Enjoying your blog! Glad I found you though Melissa. :)

You see that's the nice thing about these awards, you discover blogs you might not have otherwise found.

I think many of us are going through this. I picked through 4 books this week I have been planning to read and I have put each one down.... just not cutting it....

As Hubby's mam or Ma-In-Law (as I affectionatly call her) would say "It must be something they are putting in the water".
