Phew! Thank goodness I'm not one of those readers who, if not gripped by whatever number of pages it might be, gives up on a book.
Yes, I found I've been Waiting For You a bit of a slow burner ... in its defence this is largely due to the intricacy of characters like Esther whose struggles {both past and present} added a delicious complexity to not just her but the plot as a whole even if this did mean the formative chapters in particular took some getting my head around.
Make it past the first 75/100 pages though and, oh my giddy aunt!. Talk about twists and turns, you are in for quite a roller-coaster ride of a read as slowly but surely the author reels you into a thriller that ultimately did not disappoint.
Today Elaine lives in North London with her husband and their two sons. When she’s not writing, she can be found looking harassed on the school run, on the side lines of her sons’ football matches, or singing her heart out with her local branch of Popchoir.

With thanks to Rachel of Rachel's Random Resources for organising a paper copy. One of several bloggers participating in the Blog Tour of this book, agree or disagree with me, all opinions are my own; no financial compensation was asked for nor given; threats of violence towards my favourite teddy bear went unheeded as did promises of chocolate.

I don't mind a slow burn, especially when I've been "warned" to hang in there. This sounds like a good change of pace for you.
ReplyDeleteFelicity,
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a truly compelling
book and I will definitely keep it in
mind. And thank you for your excellent
review.

It's very hard for me to give up on a book. Especially if at least one character hooks me. I try to go at least 100 pages before deciding. Glad this one was worth the investment to hang in there!
