WHO HIDES HERE? FOOTPRINTS ON THE FARM.

WHO HIDES HERE? FOOTPRINTS ON THE FARM by RACHEL COVERDALE (With illustrations by SHELLY OYSTON).

A charming picture book with beautiful illustrations allowing children to discover which farm animals have made footprints in the fields and countryside. Written with a sing-song rhythm and rhyme, children will delight in joining in with the grown-ups reading to them.

Who is hiding on the farm?
Sometimes shelters in a barn.
A coat like silk,
We drink her milk.
Who is hiding on the farm?
- First Verse

Who is hiding in the hay?
Likes to nibble, scurry and play.
His long tail
Leaves a trail.
Who is hiding in the hay?

SOURCE ... Received from the author with thanks.

READ FOR A CHALLENGE? ... No.

MY THOUGHTS ... An invitation to guess just what  animal is hiding in the pen, in the hay, in the reeds or any other number of places around the farm.

Written in verse and colourfully illustrated, Who Hides Here? Footprints On The Farm is suitable for the youngest of children who will doubtlessly love the beautifully drawn animals right through to slightly older children who having read/been read the clues get to turn the pages to reveal just which animal has been hiding and what noises they make.

As fun as it is educational. I love that the book also includes some activities that encourage children to revisit the story by, for example, getting them to spot Sammy Snail who has photo-bombed every picture throughout ... something I myself hadn't noticed at first reading but enjoyed spotting thereafter.

  1. Seems like a neat book based on a neat concept. Evan as an adult, I like to try identity animal footprints.

I, too think that children and
    their family would enjoy this
book. The verses which you shared
    are creative, evocative and lovely.
As for the illustrations, I appreciate
the cow on the cover. She is beautiful.

  4. This sounds delightful! Like Brian, I also like to try and identify any prints I come across in my walks. (as well as sounds, etc.) I also love children's books that have a character to look for in each of the scenes.

I might have to get this on for my newest grandson!
