A JUMPER FOR CHRISTMAS.

The second 'children's' book read for the Visions Of Sugarplums level of this years Christmas Spirit challenge. (You can read my first review here).

 BACK COVER BLURB: The last thing Tom wants for Christmas is another of Granny McColl's bright and badly knitted jumpers.

 Tom is longing for a pet and has shown he is ready to take care of one, but has anyone else noticed?

FIRST SENTENCE: Granny McColl was warm like a jumper,
fierce like a tiger,
very good with animals
and very bad at knitting.

 MEMORABLE MOMENT: In the morning Tom was woken up by the sound of jingling bells and raced downstairs to find Mum, Dad and Granny already up. They all seemed excited, as if they were bursting with a secret they couldn't wait to share.

 MY THOUGHTS: Take one young boy desperate not to receive yet another of his granny's knitted jumpers for Christmas. Like many a child all Tom longs for is a pet of his own.

 Gently done so as to be appropriate for young readers. I thought this an imaginative and innovative way of introducing animal welfare issues wrapped in a delightful, festive story with fun full- colour illustrations by Sarah Waterfield.

    This looks like a sweet story and I'm guessing from what you said about animal welfare that Granny must knit the sweaters from wool. (I personally like cotton since wool "eats me up")

    Sounds cute, but I bet he would want a jumper from her when he gets older. :) Also love anything that helps bring about animal welfare issues!
