A STARRING ROLE, CAROLS REINVENTED, AND A MINI CHRISTMAS READING CHALLENGE.

Our great-nephew, Little Plum, in his first starring role as a shepherd

Just as I'm sure we weren't the first I'm equally positive that my generation won't be the last to reinvent the words to certain tunes. Tunes such as While Shepherds Watched and We Three Kings Of Orient Are ....

While shepherds washed
Their socks by night
All hanging on the line
The Angel of the Lord came down
And said those songs are mine.

Hmm, hardly as inventive as ...

We the shops of Fewster Square
Selling knock-off M&S underwear
Its fantastic
No elastic
And only fifty five pence a pair.

Fewster Square I should explain being the local shopping centre that consisted of a fruit n veg shop, a chippie, a small bingo hall, what was then a Liptons supermarket, and a laundromat. M&S referring to British manufacturer/retailer Marks and Spencer.

So, what about you, care to share any misheard/reinvented lyrics of your own?

Want a quickie Christmas reading challenge? how about joining me in this ...

  1. What a cute little shepherd. :)

The main ones we changed the words to was Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and The 12 Days of Christmas. No fabulous lyrics though...

  2. That was always part of the fun of getting a new album with the song lyrics printed on the record sleeve....finding out if we were singing along with the wrong words or not.

  3. Little Plum is adorable, and the Christmas mini-challenge is tempting. I've heard altered versions of a few carols but nothing really worth mentioning. Enjoy your weekend, Tracy!

  4. That is a great picture. Hopefully your great-nephew had a lot of fun.

I think that one can write a book about mis heard and mis sung lyrics :)

  6. What an adorable picture of Little Plum! Thank you for sharing, Tracy. :-)

Here is one I grew up singing to the tune of Jingle Bells:

    Dashing through the crowds,
    People everyplace
    Up and down the aisles
    Sneezing in Your face.

    It's so hard to choose
    There's so much to see
Wonder if what I got you cost more'n what you go me.

    Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells
    Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to go shopping everyday.
Candy store, 5 and 10, pet shop after that.
Things for all the family and don't forget the cat.
