The really small independents just fill every bit of floor space with stock and even the big chaps like Waterstones don't leave much room to get around in and/or require use of the goods lift to get to other floors.Revd. I agree with just about al of your list...Hi Tracy,

I agree with just about al of your list, I couldn't have put it better myself.

Number 4 is an interesting one, as I have come across several books which have been published twice, with different titles and different covers and it really winds me up. I was talking to one of the culprit authors a short while ago and she was at pains to point out that it was the publishers and distributors in the various countries, who actually demand the changes, to take into account the vagaries of the local markets.

The publishers should be shot in that case, do they really think that the readers in different countries can't understand a book, without the title being changed ... and what I wonder, is their reasoning behind changing the cover?

Great post, really interesting and thanks for sharing your answers.

YvonneYvonne @ Fiction Books Reviewshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14821114534056290177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2372511622978085955.post-6365850364469371352013-10-25T21:16:42.754+01:002013-10-25T21:16:42.754+01:00Excellent list! How would they be able to discuss said books then?
And I totally agree, as nice as it is to support local indie book shops, it's not always do-able due to prices. The perfect specimens on covers is also a good one. Funny thing about War and Peace: one of my university lecturers said most of those who claimed to have read War & Peace really meant they'd read the first page of W&P. As for Great Expectations, I did enjoy it. The story is as good as the author's name was prestigious. One pet peeve I can think of now is beginning authors or celeb authors 'cute-sifying' their characters in children's books, or turning their selfishness over to generosity and kindness within the flip of a page.
