MABEL AND THE LITTLE STAR.

MABEL AND THE LITTLE STAR by LOTTIE THORN.

BACK COVER BLURB: Such a sweet cover I couldn't resist sharing it below. For those of you who like me don't have the best of eye sight ....

It is nearly Christmas and the church tree is being put up and decorated, watched by Mabel and her friend Archie.

Meanwhile outside, a mischievous Little Star accidentally falls out of Heaven and lands in the churchyard.

And Mabel has an idea.

FIRST SENTENCE {Page 1}: There was once a mouse that lived in the old church of St Mary.

MEMORABLE MOMENT {Page 16}: The next day was the Carol Service. Just as it was getting dark, the key rattled in the lock, there was a blast of cold air and the door opened.

There was a gasp.

SOURCE: Received for review.

MY THOUGHTS: Right up there as one of the most delightful children's book I have ever had the pleasure to read. This is a truly adorable story, in addition to which are some seriously sweet illustrations.

A wonderful Christmas tale (not that I can see it being a once a year read as once they've heard it once children will doubtlessly want it read again and again) that I can see becoming a traditional read in our household alongside such classics as Clement Moore's 'Twas the Night Before Christmas.

Sounds like such a sweet Christmas story. The spider on the cover caught my eye. I have to wonder what its part in the story is.

Oh my goodness this sounds lovely Tracy. I know two little girls who will be getting a copy in time for Christmas.

Hi Tracy,

Definitely a story not to be restricted to Christmas reading only.

The author and illustrator have been quite brave with the simplicity and almost monochrome colouring of the cover image. It is generally accepted that for younger readers, colour and energy, is the name of the game. I actually quit like this clean-line approach.

There have been some great childrens reading recommendations on the blogs, over the course of the last few months. However, once again, for younger readers it is quite important to source UK English spelling books, rather than confuse the issue with US authors.

Thanks for sharing :)
